Laundry on the sofa, playing cards unkept, toys strewn all over, living room in a mess as usual. I was contemplating if I should edit the photo to neaten the background but decided against it.
Because this is who we are and this is how our life is. So instead of getting frustrated by the constant mess, we are thankful for having home cooked on the table. It's not something the kids take for granted because they see how tough it can be to cook, clean and care for four kids day in day out.
To be honest, I've never really loved cooking but I do it for the sake of the kids and hope that these memories will stay etched in their hearts even when they are all grown up. Every meal encompasses joy and symbolises my love for them. Just like how I remember my mum used to cook for me as a child, I know my kids will appreciate these moments too.
Dinner last night was salted vegetable duck soup, baked seabass with lemon and tomatoes, and fried rice with ham and egg. Oh, and pumpkin and banana puree for the baby. So simple, but also heartwarming and full of love.
Let's tuck in, kiddos, and celebrate the start of the September school holidays where we will be staying home, cooking, doing homework and revision, watching movies, dancing, playing card games and hangman, chatting about anything under the sun and enjoying how rowdy but merry the house is.
一家人能在一起就是最大的幸福。❤

It’s been awhile since I last posted a picture of me. Without Layla, without Deon, not in home clothes, not without makeup. Just me, post motherhood, looking stylish, glamorous and unfriendly. Haha!
While I must admit that it is nice to have chio photos to showcase on social media, however as I age, more and more so I relish being in the present. And that means, when I am with my daughter I spend quality time with her instead of trying to capture the perfect moment, and be spending quality time with my phone instead. Likewise, when I’m with my friends, at work, with my family, with Deon, having a nice meal, all dressed up for an event or an editorial shoot, when I’m cooking, reading a book, taking my daughter out to park, cycling, working out, etc. I am in that moment with them and myself. It is such a beautiful feeling to be able to be completely engaged in something I am doing, such a privilege to be spending quality time with myself especially after being a mom.
It is unfortunate that in this time and age, people often do things for the sake of presenting it to the rest of the world. There’s this weird mentality of, 'if I don’t show then it doesn’t count because people wouldn’t know that I have done it.'
I’m proud to say, those days where I needed external validation is over.
When I first started Instagram, it was because I wanted to document my life’s journey. I posted my first picture on 10 June 2011, it’s been a decade (OMG)! It’s been through so many stages of my life with me. The good times and the bad, many relationships, heartbreaks, marriage, vacations, wonderful meals, hairstyles, fashion, deaths, births. I am delighted that 10 years later, ive stayed authentic and shared only things that matters to me at that point in my life. it’s like a little journal that I keep. I may not put in much effort with showing ‘Instagram-worthy’ pictures, but I sure do with writing my thoughts.
So thank you guys, for being here with me all these years. For accepting my less than perfect photos, my bad grammar, my infrequent posts, my long-windedness, my non-existent replies and comments.
But here I am, what you see is what you get.
Happy blessed Monday!

Karaage (also called Tatsutaage) is Japanese fried chicken. It is usually cooked for lunch, dinner, or bento. Also, it is the best party recipe favored by most people!
FYI: Dried soy meat I used.
https://amzn.to/3zBFQ4m
---------------------------------
Vegan Karaage (Soy Meat Fried Chicken) Recipe
Difficulty: Very Easy
Time: 40min (incl. marinating time)
Number of servings: 4
Ingredients:
100g (3.5oz.) dried soy meat blocks https://amzn.to/3zBFQ4m
* 2 tbsp. soy sauce
* 2 tbsp. sake
* 1 tbsp. grated ginger
* 1 clove grated garlic
* 1 tsp. sesame oil
2 tbsp. Katakuriko (potato starch)
deep frying oil
lemon wedges if preferred
Directions:
1. In a boiling water, cook dried soy meat blocks for 4 minutes. Or as directed on its package. Wash well (change water for a few times) to remove the bad smell, then drain well.
2. Mix the seasonings in a bowl and marinate the soy meat for about 30 minutes. Overnight is okay, longer makes them tasty.
3. Drain lightly (do not squeeze out the marinade liquid), coat with Katakuriko in a plastic bag.
4. Deep fry in oil at 180C (350F) until crisp golden brown.
5. Serve with lemon wedges if you like.

The origin of this food is Bolognese(Italian food) and is arranged in Japanese style.
It has been changed to suit the taste of Japanese people and is a popular homemade food.
In this video, I used sake and hatcho miso instead of using red wine.
