Winter is all about roasted chestnut 🌰, salted quail eggs and charcoal-roasted sweet potatoes 🍠 ! 係炒粟子，鵪鶉蛋同煨蕃薯呀!
These local street foods are freshly made and sold in a wooden cart everyday, which is only available in autumn and winter! I am so happy to see and smell them again! And this is what I need after work and warm my hand during the cold weather! My favourite are roasted chestnut (HKD$ 44/pound) and salted quail eggs (HKD$ 10 for 6 eggs). This one in Prince Edward (at Flower Market, near Prince Edward police station) are a bit more expensive than those in other places but offer much more options including Walnut 補腦合桃 🧠, peanuts and ginkgo nuts!
We haven’t tried the chestnut in this wooden cart yet (let us know if it is good!) but it is a pity that it is becoming harder to find good roasted chestnuts in Hong Kong as some places cook the chestnut in water before roasting it.
