【字面上的疫症】
武漢肺炎肆虐全球，傳染病佔據了各地新聞版面。疫苗、疫症、隔離，都成了司空見慣的用詞 —— 但這些詞到底是從何而來？
稱為 Coronavirus 的冠狀病毒令墨西哥啤酒科羅娜（Corona）聲名大噪，但其實這個字跟啤酒毫無關係 —— 科學家純粹是發現病毒體上的球莖體形狀特殊，從某個角度看來很像王冠，於是以王冠的拉丁文 Corona 為其命名。
疫症的英文 Epidemic，是古希臘吟遊詩人荷馬（Homer）在史詩「奧德賽」（Odyssey）中所創。在希臘文中， Epi 有「之上」之意，而 Dēmos 即「眾人」；而第一個把它當成醫學用詞，以此形容病毒「凌駕眾人」，卻是被不少人奉為「醫學之父」的古希臘醫師希波克拉底（Hippocrates）。後來，英語亦衍生具有「大流行病」意思的 Pandemic，當中的 Pan 有「全部」之意 —— 疫症也就是所有人的事。
隔離一詞，即 Quarantine，是意大利人制定的防疫政策。當時杜伯尼克城（Dubrovnik）為了防治殺掉歐洲 3 分 1 人口的黑死病，把所有外來船員帶到鄰近島嶼進行隔離。本來政策是 30 天，後來改為 40 天，於是該政策亦以意大利文的 40 天（Quarantina）命名。
在抗疫之路上，疫苗（Vaccine）和抗生素（Antibiotics）都是常用醫療手段。Vaccine 一詞源自拉丁文 Vacca，即「牛」；原因是世上首支成功研發的疫苗，是用以治療天花的牛痘。Antibiotics 字面解釋則截然相反，Anti 在英文中有「對抗、殺害」之意，而 Bios 則是古希臘文「生命」的意思。然而，抗生素實際上要殺掉的，不是人的生命，而是病菌的生命。
人類除了要防控病毒，還有與伴之而來的人禍。世衛早前明確指出，若要控制疫情，必須各方聯手，應對由民間資訊泛濫釀成的「資訊瘟疫」（Infodemic）。在恐慌下到處散播的資訊真假成疑，或影響群眾的觀念與行動，對疫情造成難以預料的影響。處身後真相的年代，打擊假新聞固然是「天公地道」，但究竟誰是掌握「真相」的權威？由當今被指偏袒中國的世衛號召打假，其公信力和背後的政治動機，相信難叫國際釋疑。

老師這次花了很多時間幫大家整理了 human biology and health care 的單字，為了讓同學不會聽到睡著，老師融入了很多音效...但是建議不要晚上的時候聽，免得被嚇到喔！
老師雖然每次在提供單字表時都會附上中文解釋，但這只是方便學生更快知道這個單字最通用的意思，不代表是它最完整的涵義及用法。除此之外，有心的同學應該進一步使用其它工具查詢，最好是單字，配詞與句子一起背 (死背一個單字是無用的)，再透過經常使用單字的方式，加強自己對單字的認知和應用。當然，你也可以利用老師或字典提供的單字音檔，進而增加自己對單字的辨識能力和發音!

You must also construct sentences, read articles suitable for your level on the given topic, and then use the new words and phrases in writing.
