Heard the sad news that Mdm Woo Yun Sum has left us. She was one of five Singaporeans featured in the NDP 2018 show. The retired samsui woman was one of the Pioneer Generation who built Singapore with their determination and grit.
I shared her story at my National Day Rally that year. Her quiet resilience was captured by her matter of fact description of how the Pioneer Generation lived: 有饭吃饭，有粥吃粥 (When there is rice, eat rice; when there is porridge, eat porridge). 昨天晚上，得知胡润心婆婆离开我们了。
还记得在2018年的国庆庆典上，认识了胡婆婆，也了解了她的故事。胡婆婆为了养家，下南洋到了新加坡，带上了红头巾，与其他姐妹们在工地做粗重的工作，过着艰苦的生活。在新加坡落地生根的她，也见证了新加坡的蜕变，并为我国的发展感到自豪。胡婆婆在阐述自己的生活时，就提到有饭吃饭，有粥吃粥 (https://youtu.be/AZIICIFJOTo?t=1949)。这句话给我留下了深刻印象，因为这包含了建国一代所秉持的精神，不畏困难，勇于开拓。
在应付冠状病毒疫情，我相信如果我们持有建国一代的精神，我们可以共同克服这次的危机。
