Books recommendation: The Inexplicable World of Spirits That You Are Clueless About

半夜12點來談，你不知道的不可思議的靈異世界。

我們活在靈的世界裡面，卻對此世界的浩瀚一無所知，就會很容易被我們極有限的感官所蒙蔽，自以為是的認為科學才是真理。

問題是，真正能夠通陰陽鬼神，願意把靈異世界的真相寫出來的人少之又少。為什麼？

小小的我出道這些年來，弘揚佛法和傳達玄學的知識，遭到的欺壓、污衊、霸凌和辱罵卻從來沒有少過。只要站出來，逆著普羅大眾的方向走，就容易被有心人士拿來當箭靶，旁人無知，一犬吠形，百犬吠聲。

那種艱辛和苦，只有經歷過的人才能體會。這使我更加讚嘆我根本上師，聖尊蓮生活佛，這四十年來度眾的道心、毅力和膽識。祂，是我學習的對象。就算面對重重的惡勢力，祂依然勇敢的選擇揭露靈異的神秘面紗，讓我們芸芸眾生能擁有正信，不再迷惘，進而「諸惡莫作，眾善奉行」。

這也是為何我們學佛人，必須非常尊敬的請法，及感恩傳我們法的大善知識，因為很多時候，他們真的是用生命來換得正法的灌頂，恆持的弘法度眾，而我們輕輕一問，便能易如反掌的得到佛慧。若我們不慎重，發心不純，會種下落入三惡道的因，在黑暗的境界裡，永世再也聽不到真實的佛法，從痛苦中解脫。

雖然這四本書是盧師尊大約24年前的著作，在2021年讀還是那麼震撼人心，可見社會雖文明進步，也只是個假象，因為大部份人的心靈並沒有昇華，依舊在黑暗裡打滾。我推薦我根本上師，聖尊蓮生活佛，這四本靈書：

We live in a world of spirits, yet most of us are largely ignorant about the vast expanse of this world. We become blinded by our very limited sensory perceptions and arrogantly presumed that only science is the real deal.

Problem is, only a rare few can transverse the world of Yin and Yang, ghosts and gods. Even fewer are willing to reveal the truth through writings. Why so?

I am just an insignificant person. Yet since my debut a few years ago, I have had my fair share of oppression, cyberbullying, smearing and insults. Any person, who puts him/herself in the public eye yet walks against the general direction of the masses, is bound to be an easy target for personal attacks by people with vile intentions. Uninformed bystanders are also likely to follow the crowd.

Such pain and hardship can only be understood by those who went through it. Ever since this, I grew more respect for my Grandmaster, Living Buddha Lian-Sheng. He is my role model. The faith, tenacity and courage He demonstrated in delivering sentient beings for the past 40 years are worthy of applause.

Despite facing vicious forces again and again, He boldly chose to reveal the mysterious truth behind the world of spirits, for us to have the right knowledge, and no longer be lost. Only then we can eventually cease all evil and cultivate all good.

This is why when we seek Buddhist teachings, we should have utmost respect and be thankful to our virtuous teachers who impart the teachings to us. Many a time, these teachers exchanged their lives to receive such precious Dharma empowerment and risked their personal safety to propagate Buddhsim and deliver sentient beings.

Yet all we have to do is to ask and we can receive the teachings effortlessly. If we behave improperly and have impure intentions, we will plant the seed of being reborn into the Three Evil Paths, banished into a world of darkness, never to hear a single word of authentic Dharma for life or be liberated from sufferings.

While these 4 books are written by Grandmaster Lu some 24 years ago, to read them in the year 2021 can still be shocking to some of us. Our society may have progressed but this is a false appearance, as our spiritual self are still lacking and in turmoil. I recommend these four books for your spiritual pursuit:

直播訪問精華筆記

上週末我舉辦了一場直播演講，訪問了新創公司 Cooby 酷比 的兩位創辦人：前 Instagram Tech Lead Jocelin 及前臉書 PM Wen。 研究他們的創業思考、歷程與經驗。Cooby 是針對需要長期維護客戶關係的業務所做的 CRM 管理工具，目前正在緊鑼密鼓邀請需要和客戶溝通的專業人員試用階段！以下是直播的大綱筆記，讓我們來看看他們是如何決定放棄高薪工作，一切以 0 開始回台創業的第一手經歷：


1. 創業發想的開端
在大學就有創業想法的 Wen 在評估過創業所需條件後，選擇離開 Dropbox 進入 Facebook 尋找更多的人脈、資金以及學習管道。
Jocelin 則在就學期間多方碰觸到創業相關的知識，在 Instagram 及 Facebook 的工作經驗中也不斷嘗試增加這方面的經驗職能。也因為這樣，本是大學學長學妹的他們決定一起創辦 Cooby，成為了這間公司的共同創辦人。


2. 從 0 開始的創業
在決定和 Wen一起創辦 Cooby 前，Jocelin 也曾想過先到別間新創公司嘗試看看。但在一位創業前輩的建議下發覺，沒有任何職位能比創業者更能體會這一段路程的艱辛與價值。
Wen 也說到，成為創辦人後發現自己更能親身去參與公司的每一個過程，體會承擔公司的義務與享受其中的樂趣。


3. 創業的時機點：Now or Never
創業畢竟是極具有高風險的，是什麼讓他們能毅然決然放棄在矽谷的高薪工作呢？
Wen 以未來規劃做答案給了一個數據調查，不執著於下一步行動所帶來的價值，而是要為長遠的規劃去評估其收益。
Jocelin 補充說到，創業這個決定所要評估的風險成本是非常多的，若不趁著現在尚未成家立業前去冒險一次，隨著時間的推移成本越來越高，將會更難下這個決定。


4. 創業的地點
因為 2020 年 COVID 19的爆發，台灣疫情相對穩定。
Wen提供了一個方程式來教我們評估選擇創業地點的一個辦法！簡單來說，以自己的初始資本為底，去加乘市場的成長速度、你相較於該市場的價值以及抓控市場的能力，即能得出你最後成就的產出。
較為感性的選擇面上，家庭也是他們考量的最大主因。


5. 創立公司的資金、團隊哪裡來？
當詢問到他們創業的資金來源時，Wen 也公開他找尋投資的過程。除卻人脈影響力外，投資人更看重團隊能力、執行力以及產品潛在市場等等更實質的因素。而相較於亞洲，美國矽谷對於創業投資的容忍度來得更為廣。Jocelin 表示可能亞洲缺乏好的楷模樣本，對於要投資這樣初始的公司較為瞻前顧後，也因此 Cooby 的投資大多為國外投資人為主。

在團隊的延攬方面，大多數的創始員工都是他們在矽谷工作時認識的！以一個個 project 做起，逐步建立信任與動機的吸引成功打造出團隊。Wen 強調Work reputation很重要，這幫助他們找尋人才方便了許多！


6. 創業產品的發想過程
尋找趨勢在哪，結合資訊不對等產生的Gap去找到適合發展的產品。
Cooby 所做的產品是一套CRM產品，針對不同行業的人員，面對客戶訊息做整合以及分配事項讓工作效率提高，去做更能發揮產值的事情。Wen 分享到，現在的趨勢是通訊軟體正在取代 email 的進程，而他們看重的就是將這些通訊軟體統一整合到 Cooby 去方便大家管理！

同時，我也詢問他们目前開發產品遇到的最大困難點是什麼？Jocelin 說明因為 Cooby 的產品必須仰賴通訊軟體的 API，因此在一些功能實現上有時相對較為受限。而在市場發展方面，Wen 表示對於客戶的付費意願是較為具有挑戰性的地方。


7. 市場接受度以及產品的TA策略
現階段 Cooby 以需要維護客戶關係的業務為主要 Target，期待個人業務對於 Cooby使用滿意度能擴大到影響公司整體去購買。Wen 對於這樣的 self-serve 的go-to-market 策略抱持樂觀與正向的想法，希望藉由這個方式去擴大市場的接受度。


8. 公司的下一步計畫
除了公司的擴大徵才計畫外；這週產品會上線，再藉由這段過程去找到真正適合這個產品的使用者進而擴大用戶群。


9. Q&A 時間補充資料：
- Wen 提到他們使用的線上付費做 user research方式， 是使用 Upwork ， 但不是雇用他們做事， 而是去訪問他們。

- 請問Wen平時如何觀察趨勢的呢？比如說哪些平台或是通過哪些管道? Read books with real number
- 在創業初期是怎麼決定對於團隊是付高薪水還是配股來留存人才？ 薪水結構相對是有競爭力的， 而股權方面：Initial employee option pool is 10%, Series A replenish it up to 15%。 Wen 提到這個結構並沒有一個出處， 但是參考其他投資人及公司的創辦人得到的。


這段訪談算是初步的了解他們回台創業的想法與歷程，其中當然還有很多問題值得去探訪， 但我們可能需要另外 3 個小時才可以把問題問完，讓我們期待他們產品上線後的良好反饋， 我可以半年後再邀請他們和我們做一次 follow up 的訪談， 看他們的最新進度。

I’m posting more about Raeesah Khan today.

First, a disclaimer. I do not dislike the Worker’s Party.

Of all the opposition parties, I think they are the best. I live in Aljunied grc, and they have done a great job so far. I agree with many of the policy suggestions in their manifesto.

For example, redundancy insurance, abolishing the retirement age, or lowering the age of eligibility for BTO flats, which will help singles and our LGBTQ community to get housing just like married couples are.

Previously I mentioned on my ig stories that Raeesah Khan is not suitable to be an MP.

Today I am going to ask some very important questions which I hope both WP and Raeesah will answer.

I refer to this tweet by Raeesah in the photos.

It appears that she is saying her political views can be summed up by

- Angela Davis’ political views
- Intersectional feminism

Many of you may not know about Angela Davis, but she is a far-left activist, who spent her life sympathising with some of the most oppressive communism regimes around.

She literally calls herself a communist, and was a member of the Communism Party in USA. I think there is no need to explain how horrible communism is.

And of course in order to make any non-communist country a communist state, it would involve total revolution, many lives, and replacing it with a totalitarian regime in charge of redistributing wealth back to its citizens.

She is also a prison abolitionist, campaigning for prisons to completely be eradicated. Where to put the murderers, I can’t seem to find a good answer, because it seems she also is against the death penalty.

Angela Davis was a member of the Black Panthers, a brutal communist, anti-semite organization. In 1970, Angela Davis bought the weapons that were used for a shootout during a trial of 3 black inmates accused of killing a white prison guard. All the black men and judge who was held hostage perished in the gunfight, and Davis fled the state. She was eventually caught.

Even though she conspired to commit murder, the jury found her not guilty.

In short, this woman is the antithesis to the Singapore that Mr Lee Kuan Yew wanted.

This tweet of Raeesah Khan’s talking about Angela Davis was posted only a few weeks ago, but surprisingly enough, nobody is talking about it.

Anyone who knows who Angela Davis is should be horror-filled that a candidate running for parliament is a fan of hers, and claims that the reading of her books represents her political views.

Previously I mentioned Raeesah appears to be one of those radical leftists who seem hell bent on bringing the toxic, cancerous identity politics that America is so notorious for into Singapore.

There are racial issues that minorities face in Singapore, of course there is. It is tough to be a minority in any country.

But instead of discussing calmly and logically what new politics can be introduced to solve these problems or what laws need to change, proponents of Identity politics instead try to make a single race the enemy.

When there are enemies, people unite. Political parties using this method will see themselves get votes if they manage to market themselves as the empathetic ones, even if the politics they impose do more evil than good in the long run.

Society is then split into a them vs us, while tribalistic infighting ensue. If you disagree with this method of classifying victims by their skin colour (when in fact so many things determine a person’s privilege, such as looks, height, family wealth, health, both parents around etc etc), you are automatically seen as racist and the bad guy.

Because nobody wants to seem morally corrupt or unsympathetic, they prop up this system.

Instill this sentiment into citizens long enough and resentment builds. The ones constantly told they are being oppressed will start seeing oppression everywhere. They won’t even try to succeed in life, because they are told they are so oppressed they can never make it. They believe their oppressors owe them.

Meanwhile, the majority race starts feeling angry at constantly being called oppressors. Or maybe they are poor and unhappy themselves, but see that resources for help are only made available for minorities but not them. If they were indeed racist before, this makes them even more racist.

What eventually happens is civil war. We cannot have this poison in Singapore.

Raeesah’s has apologised for her posts, but nobody needed to hear whether she is sorry she was being insensitive.

What people need to know is:

Does she still believe our courts are corrupt as she so insinuated? Does she still believe law enforcement unfairly target minorities? If not, what made her change her mind? Her statement does not address any of this.

Worker’s Party claim they did not see those posts of Raeesah’s. Fair enough. But I do not believe they have done such terrible vetting that they have not seen her tweet about Angela Davis which was so recent.

I wish to ask Raeesah Khan, DO YOU DISAVOW ANGELA DAVIS’ POLITICAL VIEWS?

- Do you believe that Singapore, through a brutal revolution and death, can become a communist utopia?

- Do you think that everyone in Singapore should not own private property and should have equal wealth, the very values communism epouses? If so, do you seek to redistribute your multi-millionaire dad's wealth to the poverty-stricken citizens of Singapore?

- Do you agree that it is only with violence and death do we achieve true freedom?

- Do you seek to abolish prisons in Singapore?

- Do you believe in the ideologies of Karl Marx, or Valdamir Lenin?

As for Worker’s Party, why did you field a candidate who holds extreme left-wing views?

Do you agree with her ideologies and think it aligns with yours? DO YOU ENDORSE THESE FAR LEFT VIEWS??

Please answer these questions. I write all these not because I am a PAP lackey, even though obviously people will say I am. Despite what you think, I believe it is healthy to have opposition seats in parliament.

However, I absolutely do not want to see candidates such as Raeesah Khan in our parliament - she brings with her dangerous political views that can topple the peaceful society we built over the years and is completely against everything that Singapore stands for. As it is, the mindless youth of Singapore are already echoing her dangerous ideologies.

I would rather any opposition joker win than her.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is an action-adventure video game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. A remake of the 2002 video game Mafia, it was announced in May 2020 and was released on September 25, 2020. The game is set within the fictional city of Lost Heaven (based on Chicago) in the 1930s, and follows the rise and fall of taxi driver-turned-mobster Tommy Angelo within the Salieri crime family. The game received favorable reviews from critics, with praise for revitalizing the story, performances, and graphics, although the dated action animations were criticized.

In 1930, during the ongoing Great Depression, impoverished taxi driver Thomas "Tommy" Angelo is strong-armed by two members of the Salieri family - Paulie Lombardo and Sam Trapani - into helping them escape an ambush by members of the Morello Family. While Tommy is compensated for his help, his actions lead him to losing his job when the Morello family target him in an act of revenge the following day. In 1933, Don Salieri becomes increasingly concerned when Don Marcu Morello begins putting pressure on him, ambushing their operations with bribed police officers and gaining the support of a corrupt prosecutor whose son has been killed by the Salieri family. Tommy finds himself forced to counter these attempts to prevent the organisation being financially weakened. When Salieri assigns him to eliminate an informant at a brothel, he is advised by Sam to spare them instead, allows them to escape in exchange for their silence, covering up his actions. When Frank disappears along with the organisation's account books, Tommy is instructed to locate both, and quickly learns that Morello planned to use the FBI to take down his rival. Convincing Frank to reveal where the books are, Tommy allows him to leave the country with his family, and covers up his actions once again.

In 1935, with prohibition ended and both Mafia families moving out into new rackets, Don Morello attempts to assassinate Salieri, whilst he and Tommy are dining at a restaurant. In retaliation, Salieri declares war and begins weakening Morello's position, damaging his rackets and reducing his influence on law enforcement. Eventually, Tommy works alongside Sam and Paulie to take down Morello, killing him by shooting down a plane he attempts to use to flee the city. By 1938, the Salieri family control the city's rackets, neutralizing anyone who attempts to stop them. Tommy, Sam and Paulie find themselves tasked with recovering a shipment of impounded cigars that had been smuggled into the city, informed that they hide a consignment of diamonds in them. Although the group manage to successfully recover the cargo, Tommy is shocked to discover that Salieri lied, and that the cigars concealed a consignment of drugs.

Disillusioned by the revelation, Tommy convinces Paulie to go ahead with a bank robbery that Sam had advised against. Although the pair manage to complete the job, Tommy finds Paulie murdered in his apartment the following day. When he goes for a meeting with Sam to discuss this, Tommy finds that his efforts to conceal his actions were uncovered by Salieri, and that Sam was ordered to execute him and Paulie for this and the bank job. Left with no choice, Tommy survives the attempt on his life and kills Sam upon learning that Frank and his family were murdered by Salieri's people. With his former allies against him, Tommy goes into hiding and contacts Detective Norman for help, providing his story of his actions. In exchange for testifying against the Salieri family, Tommy requests his help in protecting his family, which Norman agrees to out of respect for being a family man himself.

In 1951, Tommy and his family live under witness protection in Empire Bay, after Don Salieri and his organisation are arrested and tried for their crimes. A few days after his eldest daughter is married, in which he highlights how family is the most important value to a man, Tommy is visited by Vito Scaletta and Joe Barbaro, who murder him on behalf of Salieri, leaving him to die in his front yard. As his family surrounds him in shock, Tommy tells them all that they are now safe, before succumbing to his wounds.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is an action-adventure video game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. A remake of the 2002 video game Mafia, it was announced in May 2020 and was released on September 25, 2020. The game is set within the fictional city of Lost Heaven (based on Chicago) in the 1930s, and follows the rise and fall of taxi driver-turned-mobster Tommy Angelo within the Salieri crime family. The game received favorable reviews from critics, with praise for revitalizing the story, performances, and graphics, although the dated action animations were criticized.

When Salieri assigns him to eliminate an informant at a brothel, he is advised by Sam to spare them instead, allows them to escape in exchange for their silence, covering up his actions.
