這本書的寫作手法非常順暢，他並非開宗明義就寫這呢長轟動世界的對弈，而是先探討什麼是西洋棋？以及人的智慧到底是什麼？為什麼我們老是覺得贏一場賽局就是智慧的展現呢？在中間的部分，他才用比較大的篇幅去描述那場IBM深藍對戰棋王的世紀之戰，以及事後他的反思和當時許多的陰謀論（企業為了拉高股價，在那場比賽中做的諸多動作和前置作業，後來參與的人有出書揭露，也有相關的紀錄片）。而最後，他說到人與電腦機器合作的無限多種可能。他認為最可怕的並不是好萊塢電影裡演的那種機器人奴役人類的故事。人工智慧的發展並不會因為害怕而停止，但害怕會讓人抗拒想像，會讓人問錯誤的問題，以至於科技所帶來的負面效應（例如工作機會，貧富不均，等等），沒有及時地被關注和教育。

我覺得這本書最棒的一點就是他跳脫了賽局，用一個完全不同的眼光來看待整件事情，以致於他現在成為一個熱情的人工智慧大眾教育者，甚至還指導最近這部當紅的Netflix影集！

他在TED talk以及Google裡的演講，都展現超凡的應答能力，以及自我解嘲的幽默智慧，即使不懂西洋棋的人聽他分享，都會油然升起一種正面影響迎向人工智慧的勇氣。

“1985年電腦很遜，而我的頭髮很強盛！”🤣🤣

“ 我輸了那一局。 我忍不住會想， 它有可能是無敵的嗎？ 我摯愛的西洋棋賽結束了嗎？ 這些是人類的懷疑、人類的恐懼， 我只能確定一件事： 我的對手深藍完全沒有這些擔憂” 😂

深藍打敗棋王之後就退役放在博物館了，而棋王在重新整理他的人生，擁抱科技未來之後，反而開展了多元的角色，也讓更多人開始享受下棋的樂趣。他說他可以當第一個被電腦打敗的棋王，但他不想成為第一個因電腦放棄西洋棋的人。這樣觀點的轉換，讓他豁然開朗。他鼓勵人們不要陷於恐懼，而要做更大的夢想。

Humans can, and we will need our intelligent machines in order to turn our grandest dreams into reality. If we stop dreaming big dreams, if we stop looking for a greater purpose, then we may as well be machines ourselves."

Germany Stand with Hong Kong

[English Translation of Petition]
Safeguard Hong Kong, No More Suppression on Human Rights!

We are a group of Hongkongers living in Germany. Due to the out-of-hand violence of the Hong Kong Police Force (hereinafter referred to as the "HKPF"), the social movement in Hong Kong has turned into a humanitarian disaster. We call on the Federal Republic of Germany (hereinafter referred to as the “Federal Government”) to provide emergency assistance and we urge the Federal Government to take immediate and practicable action.

Abusive use of weapons and dereliction of duty by HKPF:
1. Protesters and passengers were assaulted by suspected triad groups in metro stations, and police only arrived 40 minutes after reports were made (Yuen Long MTR station on 21 July; similar attacks happened in Tsuen Wan and North Point on 5 August and 11 August respectively)
2. Mishandling a teenage female protester by male police officers, exposing her body parts during the arrest (Tin Shui Wai on 4 Aug)
3. Manipulation and deliberate planting of evidence (eg. putting sharp bamboo stick into protester’s backpacks, unsealing evidence bags that should remain sealed until presented at court)
4. 3 Members of Legislative Council, and more student activists were arrested by the police and 2 organizers of demonstrations were attacked by thugs on 30 August which is the eve of a massive demonstration
5. Police stormed the metro station, beat protesters and passengers in the station and on the train, closed all the exits and then expel all reporters and first-aiders from the metro station (Prince Edward MTR station on 31 Aug)

CALL FOR ACTIONS
In order to protect German expatriates and the interests of German enterprises in Hong Kong, as well as to protect the human rights of EU citizens in Hong Kong, we urge the Federal Government to consider taking the following actions:
1. Halt all export of crowd control equipment and “less-lethal” weaponry to Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF)
2. Express concerns regarding the escalating tension in Hong Kong and safety of German expatriates in Hong Kong
3. Deploy official Human Rights Observer to Hong Kong and to make an independent observation at the frontline
4. Acknowledge that protesters in Hong Kong may be persecuted on political grounds and adjust its asylum policy to Hong Kong asylum seekers
5. Halt any cooperation and exchange programme with the HKPF
6. Forbid entry into the EU / Revoke the right of abode or EU citizenship (if any) / Freeze the assets in EU of senior officers of Hong Kong Government and pro-China legislators and their immediate family members (if any)

致世界各地的朋友：

香港作為一個國際大都會，現正面臨人道危機。過去幾個月，香港警察已發射近 10,000 發催淚彈，88% 市民已受到催淚氣體影響，其中日前在香港中文大學單日已發射過千發。催淚彈已令香港陷入化學污染。

現在，血腥鎮壓已不再是夢魘，
而是有實際機會出現的悲劇。

今晚，防暴警察封鎖香港理工大學，圍困在內的抗爭者。隨著形勢及武力不斷升級，我們極度憂慮年輕學子會流血收場。

朋友們，你們可能對電視出現的暴力衝突感到不安。但容我們解釋，政權的暴力才催生了更多暴力。香港反送中運動的暴力升級，是源自於 6.12 警暴、元朗 7.21 黑幫無差別攻擊下的無警時分，以及政府遲遲拒絕回應香港人的五大訴求，包括獨立調查警察濫暴。近 9 成市民支持獨立調查警暴，但特首林鄭月娥依然冥頑不靈，唯恐此舉會損害警隊士氣。

無人希望見到香港理工大學被暴力鎮壓。但更令人憂慮的是，警務處長盧偉聰將於本月 19 日退休，警隊有理由在其卸任前夕做盡暴行，好讓繼任人開脫責任。

阻止香港局勢急速惡化是當務之急，民陣促請香港政府及警隊停止升級行動，以至採取致命武力對付理大示威者。我們同時呼籲國際社會響應，要求港府克制，並撤走包圍理大的防暴警察。

我們已經見到對廣大和理非市民團結一致、支持理大手足的號召，我們呼籲所有對團結、和平、公義有所堅持的香港人互相扶持，絕對不要因現在的危機而放棄。

願榮光歸香港。

CHRF Urgent Appeal to International Society
On the Escalation of Tension in Hong Kong

Dear Friends in the World,

Hong Kong, a modern and civilised metropolitan, is now under humanitarian crisis.
88% of the population have suffered from tear gas. The Hong Kong police have shot nearly 10,000 rounds of tear gas, 1/5 of them were deployed in the Chinese University of Hong Kong last week. The excessive use of tear gas brings Hong Kong into a city of chemical pollution.

Worse still, bloodshed and crackdown are no longer a nightmare but a concrete possibility.

Tonight, the riot police blocked all exit of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and protestors are now unable to leave. With the tense atmosphere and escalation of the use of force by police, we worry that the protestors, most of whom are our young and future generation, will face arrest with bloodshed.

My dear friends, you may be disturbed by the violent scene on the TV screen. However, we invite you to go to the deep. Violence begets violence. The escalation of violence is inevitably attributed by the excessive use of force by police on 12 June, the inaction of law enforcement agency in the Yuen Long Gangs’ attack on 21 July, and the government’s continuous rejections to fulfil the five demands, including setting up an independent commission of inquiry to investigate police brutality. While this demand has nearly 90% of popular support as reflected in public opinion surveys, Carrie Lam has insisted with her objections in order to keep the morale of police force, in spite of allegations of abuse of power and force.

No one wants to witness a crackdown in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It is so worrying that, since the current police commissioner will retire from 19 Nov onwards, the police officers do not mind doing ugly jobs that make the police commissioner accountable.

De-escalation is of paramount importance now. We urge the Hong Kong government and Hong Kong police to de-escalate the situation and stop using any lethal force against protestors in the site. We also urge international community to join our appeal for de-escalation of state violence, and the retreat of riot police near the campus.

There are calls for all peaceful protestors in Hong Kong to stand up in solidarity with those who are in Polytechnic University. We call for everyone who are committed to solidarity, peace and justice to support each other in their possible ways, and do not give up in face of this crisis.

May glory and peace be with Hong Kong.
