最近翻照片翻到了2017年,我最愛的鼓手 Antonio Sánchez 帶著他的樂團 Migration 來台灣 河岸留言 演出,想起了之前我曾經翻譯過他的DVD "Master Series"的一段話,非常感動且給我很大的能量,但之前有被盜過帳號都不見了,於是決定再找出來聽打一次重新翻譯分享給大家。
也再次謝謝 河岸留言可以邀請這麼棒的樂團來台灣!!
如果不知道Antonio Sanchez是誰的,他是Pat Metheny band的鼓手,葛萊美獎得了好幾座,同時已經得了奧斯卡等N個獎項的電影 Birdman 「鳥人」,這部整部電影配樂只有鼓聲,所有鼓也都是他錄的。

最後一點我想要說的是,許多關於跟音樂以及音樂家共事的態度。
嗯,當我還在成長時,我總是夢想著可以在很棒、高聳、最大的場館,跟著大型樂團,以及最棒的音樂家們一起演出。 這夢想當然很棒,但你總是要從某些名不經傳的小地方當作你的起點。
突然之間,我意識到我正在小酒吧、小俱樂部、或是某家餐館、某個婚禮場演出 — 而且沒有人在專注聽你演奏,那時我覺得很沮喪而且覺得被冒犯了,舉例來說。我以前做很多婚禮場,而且在上面演奏「熱愛105度C的你」(註一) 上百次,演奏時心裡想「我在這邊銃三小?」、「快讓我離開這吧,殺了我吧,我可以演比這個帥一百倍以上的曲目!」於是,我在演奏時只想打卡下班,就沒有把我的專注放在音樂上面。
又或者某天,我在某間小酒吧演出,正在演奏搖擺樂,或者一些我真的很喜歡的音樂風格,但沒有人在注意聽我們演奏,大家都在看大銀幕上的棒球比賽。 我就想說「好吧,反正沒人在聽,我就把我昨天練功的招式都丟進去音樂吧。」而那時我只是胡亂的丟我練過的招式,並沒有在那個音樂裡面,我也沒有在聽其他音樂家演奏了什麼,不過也許其他音樂家有聽到我做的事情。
後來,當我幸運地得到了更多演出機會,而這些場合開始需要更高的難度,我了解到我的專心程度並不足以支撐這些高強度的場合。
舉例來說,當我在九零年代晚期開始跟Niels Pedersen一起做巡迴,那是個非常高強度的演奏,它是個三重奏,每次演出的晚上,我的腦袋好像快爆炸一樣,因為我並不習慣如此需要長時間專注程度的高難度演出,我才了解到我浪費了太多時間以前演奏的時候沒有把專注力放在音樂上。
我覺得,如果你有兩隻手、兩隻腳、而且可以演奏樂器,你已經夠幸運了。而我認為如果你現在正在某間酒吧、某個餐館、或是某個婚禮場作演出,而你可以把每一場演出當作好像是全世界最棒的演出、在最大、最美麗的場館,跟著最棒的音樂家一起演出,那我認為你正走在對的路上。因為你有把你的心放在音樂裡面,而且你給這些音樂跟音樂家他們所渴望的最棒的尊重,那麼我可以向你保證接下來會有很棒的事情降臨在你身上。
這就是我想說的,非常謝謝你們今晚的蒞臨,希望我們下次可以再見。
註一:原文是說演奏「La Mecarena」,90年代的當紅歌曲。這邊為了年輕讀者,使用較貼近現在的105度C的你。
註二:Niels Pedersen 全名是 Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (N.H.O.P.),是從70-90年代活躍的傳奇的低音提琴手,演奏速度可以超級超級快又具備非常豐富的音樂性。

Recently I found a picture that my favorite drummer
Antonio Sanchez and his band "Migration" touring in Taipei in 2017. And few years ago I've seen his DVD and felt so inspired from these words. I decided to translate it into Chinese to share with other Chinese drummers.
There's maybe little mistakes because English is not my mother language.

Some wise words from my all-times favorite drummer Antonio Sanchez from his DVD - "Master Series".
And the last things I wanna said, hmm, has a lot to do with attitude to work with music and musicianships. Hmm, When I was growing up, I was always dreaming of playing in a nice, tall, the biggest stadium and the biggest band with the greatest musicians in this world. And that’s great except that we all have to start somewhere. And I, all of a sudden, I was playing in a little bar, or small pub, or some restaurant, or a wedding where nobody was paying an attention. And I really felt depressed and I felt violated. And for example, I’ve been played for a wedding gig, and I would be playing “La Marcaena” for a hundred times , and I would be like “What am I doing here ?”, “Get me out of here, shoot me, this is not for me, I’m so much better than this !”
And I was not putting my heart into it at all. When the next day, I would play in some small bar, I was playing maybe swing or something that I really like, but nobody was paying an attention. Everybody was looking at the screen, the baseball game. And I would be like “Well, nobody is paying an attention, then I just gonna playing practice whatever I was working on yesterday.” And I was NOT in the moment, I was not listening to what the other guys were playing. And maybe the other guys were listening to me.
So, when I luckily started getting better and better opportunities music-wise, and the situations start getting a little more the manling. I realized that I did not have the concentration I took for me to be able to deal with some of the situations. Uh, for example when I started to play with Niels Pedersen in the late 90s, it was a very tense gig , it was just a trio, and every night I would end would headache , because I was not used to have a lot of concentration and focusing that much, for that amount of time.
I realize that I’ve wasted a lot of time not being into the music not putting my heart into it. Because, I mean I really feel like if a, you have two arms, two legs, and you are able to play , you are lucky already. And I think if you are playing in some small restaurant, or wedding, or whatever. You treat that situation like the best gig in the world in the most beautiful opera house or the biggest stadium, and you treat you felt the musicians like the greatest musicians you could play with. I think you are on the right path. You put your heart into it, and you give the music and musicians the respect they deserved. Then I can assure you really good things are gonna happen to you. 許久不見,電影院也重開也好一陣子了。大家有進戲院了嗎?
防疫很重要,但因為眾多片商的片接連上映,小眾電影的首輪壽命可能只剩一到兩周,再來又會有許多好萊塢大片,也希望大家能夠把握與電影一期一會的機緣,安心入場,用行動支持電影發行商。(編已入場10部,戲院防疫做的非常好,很安全,很放心)

今天一早就收到通知,Clint Eastwood老爺子新片《CRY MACHO》(暫譯:哭泣的男人)的預告出來了。MACHO在西語的意思是「雄壯威武的男子、有男子氣概的人」。老爺子身體硬朗,一句一句台詞娓娓道來,兩分半鐘的預告卻無比動人。預告後半,老爺子語重深長說著這樣一段話:
「我曾經有很多名號,但現在都已經不是了。我可以告訴你,這種追求雄壯男子氣概的時代已經過去了。那就只是一群人努力壯大自己的男子氣來展現自己的堅強意志。到最後,他們會發現自己除此之外一無所有。就像生命中任何事情,你以為你擁有所有的答案,直到你年紀越來越大,才發現你什麼答案都不曾有過。我們都必須在生命中做出選擇,孩子,你也必須做出你的決定。」

這段話仿佛道出了Eastwood的心聲,試想在91歲這樣的年紀,面對瞬息萬變的世界,從50年代好萊塢黃金時代的尾聲就以演員身份入行的Eastwood,到70年代開始身兼導演,至今已有超過50部電影作品,橫跨超過半個世紀的電影生涯,仍保持不倦的創作力,每部新片的推出都是一次倒數和重生。老爺子的身影,我想,已經在美國電影史上立下了獨一無二的旗幟。

我的先天條件使我唱歌時很有爆發力。
(這樣講或許聽起來不謙虛,不過我還是蠻清楚自己優勢在哪裡啦~)
加上 小時候瘋狂模仿 席琳•狄翁 和其他的diva使我飆高音時 很自在。
演出或比賽時永遠選擇大歌,很少數有複雜的「連音」。
(抱歉,riff中文怎麼說我還真的不知道)
Nobody Love出來時,我聽到那段覺得真的太厲害了。跟著唱時,到了那一句唱個「差不多」,改編版之類的。最終結果就是沒有學會那個「連音」。
很難承認的是,因為我的歌聲從小就被周圍的人讚賞,所以長大後,碰到了一個在「聲樂」裡無法很快把握的東西,我就會說服自己maybe不是我的風格,maybe這首歌不是很喜歡之類的。
坦白講,就是他媽的怕出醜啊。無法面對自己會在最擅長的事有做不到的。呵呵。
到了今天還是不太會riff。
挑戰試了一次後就打算放棄了,覺得PO到限時動態再tag她真的會很丟臉。
看了個電影後還是很不服氣,所以那一句就斷斷續續練了四五個小時。練到吃晚餐時,氣到沒胃口。多想收放自如的唱那一句!

和你們分享一下我卡卡的影片是想逼自己進步,放下給自己在唱歌上的形象。有些人可能覺得這樣對自己要求太高,不過不要求自己就是真的不會進步的啊!

I know I have a powerful voice. And baby Sophie imitated Celine (& other divas) so much that belting high notes = EZ.
I’d always pick big songs for shows and performances, which happened to have minimal riffs.
When Nobody Love came out, I remember doing my own version of her riff, just like I’d do for most riffs.
It sucks to admit, but I got used at being praised for being a belter and a good singer since childhood. It resulted in me actively running away from songs I couldn’t easily do vocally later in my life.
AKA I. Can’t. Fucking. Riff.
I just couldn’t face not being good at something I am known to be good at. Fucking lol ( /s)
I did the challenge and the first take was unbelievably gross, so I decided to just not do it.
A Netflix movie later and I was still triggered so I decided to practice. Ended up practicing on and off for about 4 hours. Just. That. Line. Still can’t sing it properly.
(Honestly I feel really bad for my neighbours today)
I don’t consider this as being “too hard” on myself. This is what I chose to do for a living, and truthfully I have been slacking off.
All this to say, I’m dumping my edit of some bad takes that aren’t too embarrassing cause I’m trying to own up that I suck at things but since it’s social media, let me still filter just how much I sucked hehehhe. I hope that this will get me to be more responsible at practicing my riffs!!!

拍虐畜影片這些事 (我的親身經歷)
2017年11月到2018年6月是我拍片生崖當中, 我所稱為 ‘尷尬期’ 的時段. 我當時是想由拍英文鬼故頻道影片同時希望轉型生活類型影片和講東話影片. 出來的效果就是一大堆又煩又cho又不好笑又沒人看又常常得罪人的誇張內容. 不要要求我給你看, 因為這些影片現時已被刪除.

[跟倉鼠生活48小時]
2018年6月16號我上載了一條養一隻倉鼠兩天的影片. 長達8分27秒的影片嘗試混合 ‘實驗型’ 影片和 ‘?物型’ 影片, 完全為了拿views. 由那兩天不同的時間點去講做寵物主人難chui, lut look的地方. Suen便搞笑.
影片一開頭去商店買倉鼠是我第一次拍攝時被質問的情況, 挺值得講. 因為只是照顧兩天的關係倉鼠生活的環境完全不理想, 只是放他在買回來的箱子中生活. 因為影片需要新鮮感我會在不同時間拍他還有不同地點去拍他. 當時我完全沒有意圖繼續yoing這隻小動物, 所以最後過了48小時我轉yoing比我更有愛心的兄弟yoing. 幾個月後這位倉鼠也離開了我們.
上載這條影片後有網友説每一次拍這隻小動物的時候他樣子也很害怕和焦慮. 由Muk生環境加上我每次突然間的拍攝引起. 但當時chuw luw的我只是當這個小生命跟拍片的工具沒兩分別. What are you doing man? Having to watch this video now makes me suffer. Hing hung當時這些影片沒有人看, 否則我一定繼續拍下去.
其實我記得小時候的我挺有愛心的. 9到11歲有yoing一隻倉鼠的我, 有pet這樣東西在童年也jim一個挺重要的部分.
我記得當年su假我去了香港leuy hung. 原本我媽媽應該照顧我隻chung mut. 之後她無la la又自己由加拿大飛去香港將我隻倉鼠交給一班挺Heartless的family friend. 我是說他們全家. 我當時knew something bad was going to happen because they tried to like tried to use a hose to spray my hamster before and torture and have a history of treating animals like not lives. I remember my mom went back before me and she said when she got my pet back he was so quiet and in a few days died. He was abused, my mom even said so herself.
I couldn’t even see his last time and he was buried. I remember getting off the plane crying in the shower. After when I talked about everyone just laughed at me and called it just a pet. And everyone pretended like nothing happened, next topic. But for a time he was my best friend.
Ever since that day I never bonded with animals again, because I was like: they are just animals. Like garbage. But it’s not true. They are living beings and friends. And I see that now.
I think I’m feeling like this because the way I treated the hamster is the way my hamster died. And I feel guilty for my childhood and now.
That’s why I needed to Film this video today.

I want to start by acknowledging their are good youtubers who raise pets. And I feel the key to doing this properly is to really in your heart, feel that connection to the pet. Not use it for views.
