Art in AIT: James Jean’s Adrift
James Jean was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and raised in the United States. Known for his virtuosic ability to work across different genres and media, he quickly gained notoriety as one of the most awarded cover artists in the history of comics, likely due to his imaginative and multifaceted approach to creating art. Using pictorial conventions from such varied sources as Japanese woodblock prints, Northern Renaissance etchings, Shanghai advertising posters, and animation, Jean’s images evoke a sense of fantasy and the subconscious.
