#'89年にコナミ開発1課が開発、コナミが稼働させた、AC用横スクロールシューティングであり、同シリーズの第3作目(沙羅曼蛇を含めば4作目)。

当たり判定が四角の為大きい、後ろから出現するザコも従来より多い、他シリーズに比べ出現するカプセルが少ない、フォースフィールドの仕様変更による弱体化、また、バグによる無敵技、発売後1ヶ月に永久パターンが見つかる等、問題を多く抱え、特にその神話的な超絶難易度でシリーズの中でも好き嫌いが分かれやすい作品になった。
