John Lennon
Imagine
Cover
"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.
When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I wrote down 'happy'.
They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life."

I remember watching all those motivational Ted speeches on Youtube, thinking how they really inspired me at the moment. I never would’ve thought I’d be able to stand on that stage myself one day. Recalling listing my hopes and goals in becoming a singer/songwriter, I once promised myself that if I become a singer, I would not only be a singer that has what it takes, but also a singer that gets to inspire, just like how different people I encountered in different parts of my life had inspired me, had given me a hand when I thought I was all alone in a deep well. It just dawned on me yesterday that I have already reached my own expectations and promises way before I got on that stage. Being able to be a speaker was already overwhelming, but what overwhelms me the most is that you all made me realise that I am so much more capable than singing, I get to have a voice and an impact, I have a choice and a platform to spread something we all as human beings need, and that it positivity. Because of Youtube, I get to introduce brand new opportunities to my life every day. Because of Youtube, I get to learn more about myself and the world, accompanied. So thank you, for listening to my stories, my music, and for allowing me to be a part of your life. @ Taipei First Girls' High School

【英語字幕】I am at 兼六園 Park right now. It's raining, it's kind of cold, It's not a very good day to visit a garden. It should be beautiful. I still think it's beautiful. And this is actually my second time to visit here. I think the first time was when I was a junior high school student. And when I was a junior high school student, I came here and I did not appreciate any of this. I didn't think it was beautiful, I didn't think anything about this place. But now I came here and I enjoy this place. I appreciate more about this history and how they kept this place. Okay what time is it? What time is it? 1:46 About appreciation, in order to appreciate something, I think you need some kind of experience ,life experience. Great example is that when I was a kid you know I did not appreciate what my parents did for me. But now I'm 41 years old I totally appreciate what they have done for me. So I'm really nice to them. What was I going to say? What was I going to say? Also when I was in elementary school, we went to Kyoto as a school trip right? We saw 金閣寺 or those temples and shrines. But I did not appreciate them. I didn't understand why these temples are important in Japanese history. But now I really want to go back to Tokyo, I mean Kyoto. And I want to see them. I'm sure I can appreciate the history and traditional things even more than ever before. This way, I think I am a grown-up a little bit. You know what, this is all I can say for today. Thank you very much.

OK. So today I would like to talk about cooking. Until three years ago, I was kind of guy who just never cooked. It's not like I wasn't interested in good food. I was just not interested in cooking, not interested in doing it yourself. I was like "well why do we have to do it because you can go to Gusto and eat an OK food". I never think that way anymore. And for some reason, about three years ago, I started cooking. And since then, what's been happening, since then, what's been happening to me is that I have more positive mind towards life. It's a big word, but I do have some kind of positive mind towards just daily living. And in my opinion I think every Junior High School student should learn how to cook. I think the schools should make it a regular subject to learn for students. I think by cooking, I mean, OK hold on... There's something I was going to say. There's something I was going to say. Hold on hold on. There's something I was going to say about cooking. What was this? Why is cooking so important? Why is that? In my opinion, cooking is such a fundamental skill to live a life. Like long time ago, if you cannot cook, if you cannot get what you eat, you would just die. So I think as a human cooking is such a fundamental skill to survive. So I think Junior High School students should learn how to cook and the schools should make it a regular class. And in my opinion even "ひきこもり" students will have... I have a solution for "ひきこもり" students. I think they should learn how to cook so that they will have more positive mind towards living. I think that's my solution for "ひきこもり" students.

OK. So when I was in junior high school, I lived in Kanazawa. Every junior high school has at least one native speaker to teach the students real English, and my junior high school was really small but there was one native speaker. I think he was an American teacher. His name was Bob. I think he was from the state of Minnesota. And I really liked that guy. I really liked him. He was a big man like American, and he made me curious about the life in America cuz we didn't have internet back then. So on his last day of his teaching term, I wanted to tell him, I wanted to say thank you to him. Actually I wanted to say more than just thank you. So the night before his last day, I was reading a dictionary, trying to come up with something to say to him. And I still remember it was "I had a good time with you". That was the phrase. And so the next day, very first in the morning, I went to teachers' room, and I found Bob sitting at his desk. And I came up to him and said "Good morning Bob. I had a good time with you. Thank you." But I wasn't sure what I said would make sense. But this big guy Bob, all of a sudden, put a big smile on his face, and said "I had a good time with you too. We're friends now.", and we shook hands. I was really happy. I was really happy to realize... first of all, I was so happy that my English made sense. And that's the time, that's the moment I realized how powerful a language is. How much a single phrase moves a person. So after that moment, English wasn't just a study for me. It was more like... it was more something human.
