The Natural Man
“But if any harm follows, then you must take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise.” (Exodus 21:23-25 WEB)
Any natural man would understand the principle above: do evil, get evil.
The Law is exactly this: obey and you’ll be blessed. Sin and you’ll be cursed and be sentenced to death.
However, the natural man doesn’t understand Grace. That’s why the apostle Paul’s letters were considered “difficult to understand”.
The natural man doesn’t believe that God is so good, that we can enjoy goodness that we don’t deserve and haven’t earned.
The natural man can’t accept that a hypothetical person who has been murdering all his life and has an authentic encounter with the Lord before his last moments, can receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior and be forgiven of all his sins.
This is because the natural man doesn’t think that he’s absolutely rotten to the core and that literally no goodness dwells in his flesh.
He judges those criminals who are arrested and announced on the news, thinking that he’s better than them.
The natural man belittles the severity of sin, not believing that one unforgiven sin is enough to result in eternal separation from God’s presence. God is that holy—perfection is the standard required to enter Heaven.
The natural man also despises Jesus’ value, thinking how can the death of one man be enough to pay for all the sins of the world—that Jesus has done His part and now it’s our turn to do our part to complete the process of salvation.
The natural man wants to build a Tower of Babel to climb up to Heaven by sheer hard work and willpower—trying to be good enough.
He doesn’t want a free pass, out of his pride, thinking “How can I take something without earning it myself?”
The Gospel is for those who aren’t good enough—that’s everyone.
That’s why it’s “good news”—really good news!
We can’t take credit for any part of our salvation. We can only humbly receive it as a gift through faith and give God all the glory!

Has life left you feeling disappointed and discouraged? If you’re at a low point in your life, I want to share a story with you from the Word of God that I believe will encourage you.
.
In Luke 24, we see 2 of Jesus’ disciples who were deeply discouraged. They had lost hope in Jesus being their Savior. Faithless and hopeless, they had left Jerusalem—where all the other believers were gathered—and headed for a place called Emmaus. Yet on this road of discouragement and isolation, Jesus Himself met them. He drew near to them and spoke with them. He strengthened their hearts. He restored their courage. He resurrected their faith. The disciples were so encouraged after encountering Jesus that they turned around and walked 7 miles back to Jerusalem to encourage the others. Their encouragement overflowed!

My friend, this is what we need in our moments of discouragement: a fresh encounter with the Lord. Today, He meets us when we spend time in His Word. He speaks to us through anointed preaching. When you experience Him drawing near to you, you will be uplifted. You will find hope again. You can find out more about this message I preached in Israel when you visit: http://bit.ly/2tyQBoV

Beloved, the Bible says that as we behold Jesus, we can’t help but be transformed from glory to glory (see 2 Cor. 3:18)! As you keep on seeing Jesus in His love and grace for you, you can’t help but go from discouraged to joyful, from defeated to jubilant!
