Let us be reminded that our Father of Independence, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman was a brilliant #Communicator, #PublicSpeaker and #Leader.

Addressing well over 10 million people from Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah - An excerpt of his speech from September 16th, 1963 reads:

“The road to nationhood has not been an easy journey. Surprises and disappointments, tension and crisis, have marred the way.

The peoples of Malaysia, however, have endured all trials and tribulations with confidence and patience, calmness and forbearance, with faith in our final goal - Malaysia.”

We celebrated the 5th anniversary of the Silver Generation Office (hence the name of the event - 5GO) with an appreciation lunch for our SG ambassadors yesterday!

The SGO started out as the Pioneer Generation Office, to tell our Pioneers about the PG Package. Today their mission has evolved to also reach out to the Merdeka Generation, to inform them of government policies that will benefit them.

The ambassadors’ efforts are high touch and highly personalised. They go door-to-door to meet seniors and get to know them. Their hard work and dedication have made this a more caring and cohesive society. Theirs is a worthwhile cause. I hope more Singaporeans join their ranks, and help seniors who have given the best years of their lives to Singapore.

Keep up the good work and once again, thank you for making a positive difference to our seniors!

What is really being Malaysian all about to you?

Inspired by Tunku Abdul Rahman and his speech during Malaysia's independence.

Culture does not define your identity, it just strengthens it.
You aren't Malaysian because of your culture, you are Malaysian because of your respect, loyalty and commitment the nation and its people.

Selamat Hari Merdeka dan Selamat Hari Malaysia.

What is being Malaysian all about?
It's not just the clothing we wear
or the food we eat.
It's not just the festivals we share,
nor the different races we meet.
It's not the just the friendliness for each other,
or the traffic we go through.
It's not the lingo we mutter,
or asking the obvious like
"Eh shooting video ah?"
No la, I'm doing kung fu.

You see being Malaysian is not just the way
we communicate or the culture we cultivate.
Being Malaysian is :

Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan
Kesetiaan Kepada Raja dan Negara
Keluhuran Perlembagaan
Kedaulatan Undang-undang
Kesopnan dan kesusilaan

It is upholding the promises and oaths we give to
God, our country and to each other.
It is the pride and respect we give,
casting aside religion, way of life and colour.

To be united under the jalur Gemilang.
Through the ups and downs and to say
I am proud of my country.
I am proud of Malaysia.
And that,
is Being Malaysian.
