About 100 ＃migrant caretakers, mainly from the ＃Philippines, on Sunday demanded Taiwan's government guarantee their basic rights by giving them a weekly day off with at least 24 consecutive hours. It's an internationally accepted standard, but one that is not enjoyed by 60 percent of the foreign in-home caregivers in ＃Taiwan.
The workers, organized by the rights group Taoyuan Domestic Caretaker’s Union, held the protest outside the Ministry of Labor's office on Sunday, even though the office is closed, to highlight the fact that government civil servants have a day off, but many migrants don't. Workers who had to work and couldn't come to the protest, showed their desire for a day off with patches of quilt they made.
