Last time we mentioned that the 80% delay rate of deliver is a common issue of hardware startup campaign. A typical case was an Indiegogo technology campaign call “Smarty Ring". Which was a smartphone notification device, onto a ring with a tiny curved LED display. Initially, the campaign raised 745% over target fund, but after 10 months development, they announced that project was delay and can’t deliver on time due to the lack of Design Verification stage.
In the DVT stage, The “Big Board” from EVT stage has been re-layout to practical circuit board size, and it is time to put all components into the mechanical cases as well. Due to the high cost of molding in early stage, using 3D printer to make the cases to verify the performance is a much cost-effective and quicker way before start making a real molding. The DVT phase consists the following key aspects: Functional testing, Performance testing, Environment and Reliability testing which related to all issues from Design to Manufacturing.
