The 2020 International Climate Finance Forum, co-organized by MOFA and the Taiwan Research Institute, is set to take place from November 18-19. Officials, experts and business and NGO representatives from countries including #Germany, #France, #Japan and #Australia will take part either in person or virtually, in view of the continuing #COVID19 pandemic, to exchange views on #ClimateFinance in the hope of creating green economic policies to reinvigorate the economy in the #PostCovidEra.

If you’re thinking “What has #ClimateChange got to do with finance?," what you might not know is that as well as reducing energy consumption and carbon use, there is now a global consensus that climate finance mechanisms like capital injections can help least-developed and developing countries resist or reduce the impact of climate change.

This year, #Taiwan announced the Green Finance Action Plan 2.0. The government is working to reform the financial market and strengthen transparency in order to encourage investors and enterprises to meet the sustainable development goals, while keeping pace with the international community.

Professor Arif Ersoy...Has Passed Away on 2nd September 2020

It was a sad news that many of my friends and colleagues in Turkey and worldwide have shared with me a few days ago. I regard him as my big brother. He was so humble and easy going. I had good time with him in Istanbul in 2017 as depicted in few photos in this post.

I know him as one of great Turkish scholars in Islamic economics and Islamic finance. He was the former Rector of Sabahattin Zaim University in Istanbul.

Here a few words about his credentials.

He graduated from Ankara University from Faculty of Political Sciences in 1973 and from Konya High Islamic Institute at the same time. He received the Cambridge First Certificate in English in UK in 1975 and his MA from Leeds University at the Faculty of Economy Department in 1976. He later received his PhD from Ege University in 1979. He was appointed to Dokuz Eylül University as assistant professor in 1982 then he became an assosiate professor in 1986 and subsequently professor in 1992.

In 2015 he took office at Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Business and Management Sciences as Professor of Economy. Before he passed away, he has been managing Islamic Economics and Finance Application and Research Center at Zaim University.

May Allah bless his soul and grant his family a lot of patience and perseverance.

I can still recall a good discussion that we had in the green and beatiful compound of Zaim University during the spring time in Istanbul. He was so energetic and forthcoming on many issues and themes of our informal discussion.

May Allah award him a good and pleasant transit down there and make him the people of the beatiful paradise later.

Let us offer our sincere prayer to his soul.
