13 years ago I walked into this beautiful restaurant/bar called 'Bagan' in Penang, and the owner, Kah Hock, asked if I would be interested to put together a band and perform at this place. So I found a bunch of musicians and we practised and practised, and two months later I made my Bagan debut. I have never looked back since.
The first few months was a struggle. But then it got better. There have been lots of ups, and there were some downs too. But the ups by far outweigh the downs. I don't think I've ever been so happy in my entire life, that I am blessed to be able to create music and perform it to such wonderful accepting people. but the best part about my work is the friendships I get to create with such amazing people from all over the world.
To return to Penang and still have sold-out nights these past four nights at The BARN Wine Bar and Kim Haus Penang means the world to me.
13 years have passed. I've moved on to a different city, been in a movie, and I've even recorded some songs that will release end of this year.
I often reflect, and ask myself, when is it all going to plateau? Will it all suddenly turn banal and uninteresting? What do I do with myself then?
Well so far, it's just been getting more and more exciting. And I think, just like anything I've pursued in my life, if it ever does become uninteresting or unexciting, then it's time to stop, and start pursuing new interests.
But for the mean time, there's still lots to get excited about!
Next week I debut at The Junk in Kuching, Sarawa and at the end of July, The St. Regis Langkawi. I am grateful and elated beyond words for your support.
