我係晴報嘅酒專欄 - 「西班牙經典葡萄酒」近日出席了西班牙經典葡萄酒酒莊La Rioja Alta S.A.的試酒會。由1890年開始釀酒到而家,它在Rioja區是其中最經典及最出名的酒莊之一,產量多但仍保持高水準,一般都最少陳年5年或以上至最佳飲用期才出廠,而其實它的大部分佳釀還可多放10-20年。美酒配美食當然很重要,當日配上米芝蓮星級英國廚師Simon Rogan的餐廳Roganic Hong Kong美食,大家都是from farm to table,互相輝映!我喜歡英國芝士配890系列的紅酒,將紅酒的果香更釋放,美妙!😋😋🎉🍷
My wine column in 晴報 Sky Post newspaper- “Classic Spanish Wine”! Attended a very classic Spanish winery @La Rioja Alta S.A. tasting recently. From 1890 till now, it’s one of the classic & renowned winery in Rioja. They have large production but the quality is still high. They usually matured for at least 5 years or more before release. Many of them can age in bottle for 10-20 years more. Good wine and good food r of course important pairing! I tried the wines pairing with MICHELIN-starred chef Simon Rogan’s restaurant in HK Roganic Hong Kong, they r both from farm to table, so cool! I like the British cheese paired with 890 wine, which brings out the red fruit flavours of the wine! Wonderful!😋😋🎉🍷

Wines Of Ronda SG - 5/12.
French grapes on Spanish soil.
Thanks to Juan Manuel Vetas, the founding father of Ronda wines.
His young family wasn't the only thing he brought from Bordeaux in the 80s. His French grapes helped Ronda in becoming the fastest growing wine region in Spain.
I'm meant to be reviewing the wine but let's pay attention to the story instead.
Out of the 5,166 bottles produced that year, it's incredible that some have made it to Singapore shores. The story of a man with a vision, paired with devotion and patience, to literally see (and taste) the fruits of his labour right at his doorstep.

Type: Organic Red Wine - Petit Verdot

Region: Ronda, Spain
Uncorking
The contrasting white label bears a miniature handprint - his grandson's - and represents the tight-knit relationship within the family.
First Impressions
Violet tones married with hints of cherry appear upon pouring.
Nose and Mouth
Those cherry hues translate into a sensory pleasure to the nose. After a couple of swirls, deep aromas of herbs and nuts reveal themselves. Upon hitting the palate, the fruitiness is obvious and the wine pairs perfectly with a rich risotto or a tomato-based pasta.

Winemaking & ageing
Fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature around 28 degree
Prolonged maceration with the skins. The wine is aged for a minimum of 5 years & spends at least 24 months in French oak casks & American oak casks before rounding off in the bottle for minimum 24 months
Tasting notes of CV Gran Reserva
Personally she loves this the most among the 3️⃣. A very smooth fruity tasting. She has enjoyed a glass to end her tapas trails of the night
Ruby-red colour, deep & vibrant. Complex nose. It retains extraordinary well the black fruit aromas (i.e. blackberries, blue berries & plums). Gradually, it opens up to reveal smoky, toasted wood nuances, with spices & hints of minerals & tobacco. On the palate is smooth with soft & velvety tannins, great palate weight, extraordinary balance acidity. Elegant & complex aftertaste, with hints of coffee, chocolate, tobacco & dark fruit
Suggestions of food matches
Delicious with red meat, grills & roasts, game, mature & blue cheeses. Great with lamb stew with chestnuts sauce
Best served at 17-18 degree

Maceration with skins for approximately 20 days. The wine spends 18 months in French oak casks & American oak casks before rounding off its ageing in the bottle for 18 more months
Tasting notes of CV Reserva
Personally she doesn't really enjoy this middle weight, long complex finish. She felt a bit dry & lack of smooth tasting. Just enjoyed a glass
Ruby-red colour, bright & deep. Intense nose, with a great balance between the fruit (i.e. cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) & the clean nuances coming from the oak (i.e. clove, pepper. vanilla & coconut), enriched by the complex aromas developed during the bottle ageing. Very attractive on the palate, with ripe fruit & spices, tobacco & toasted oak. Elegant & soft tannins, middle weight, long & complex finish
Suggestions of food matches
Delicious with red meat, grills & roasts, game, mature & blue cheeses. Great with grilled tuna steak/ grilled beef with black pepper
Best served at 16-17 degree
