2020全中運吉祥物「驕仔」跳脫屏東總是用「阿猴」來發想的傳統思維,給大家耳目一新的新屏東印象。

這次以屏東縣鳥紅尾伯勞為靈感,取名為「驕仔」(台語發音),不僅是台語「鳥」的意思,也延續「我屏東我驕傲」的精神,代表榮耀之子,每位參賽者都是我們的驕傲。

Concept:
The mascot design of Pingtung City has long been monkeys because the old name of Pingtung is "Ahou," which is pronounced similar to "monkey" in Mandarin. In order to break away from stereotyped thinking, the team selected Brown Shrike, the bird of Pingtung County, as an inspiration to give everyone a refreshing impression about Pingtung. In particular, the team collaborated with Endemic Species Research Institute to draw the key features of Brown Shrike in detail.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Pride Shrike is the mascot of 2020 National High School Athletic Games in Pingtung, Taiwan. The mascot was named "Pride Shrike" as "bird" is pronounced similar to "pride" in Taiwanese, as well as echoing with the slogan "Pingtung Pride." The games cheer not only for the winners, but all athletes as they all make people proud.

Besides its adorkable appearance and flexible body, Pride Shrike has very distinctive personality. He is a national badminton player, in the senior year of athletic class in National Chao-Chou Senior High School. His favorite snack is Wandan red bean cake and favorite beverage is fresh lemon juice, which are both signature products in Pingtung. His objective is to show the characteristics of the host city. Pride Shrike is an important agent to promote its tourism and economy with local industries and signature products.

English Learning Ecosystem Update
As I began exploring Instagram, I struggled to find a way to deliver useful academic content. Instagram posts typically focus on images, short clips, and concise text, which are attention grabbing but not always entirely conducive to language learning. I looked over the posts of established Instagram English learning accounts, and experimented with vocabulary posts and even news posts for a couple of weeks. Not wanting to post just images, I thought about creating something new even with the rigid format of the platform.
當我開始研究怎麼用IG,我想盡了各種辦法,希望能提供大家一些實用的學術內容。 IG 的特色著重在圖片、短片以及簡潔的文字,這樣的方式雖然很容易引人注目,卻不全然有助於語言學習。我瀏覽了 IG 上英文教學網紅的貼文,並在這幾週嘗試發了一些學術單字與新聞相關的文章。我並不想只是發一些圖片,而思考著要如何在既有框架下創作一些新的東西。

So far, this is what I have at the moment. I will post Word of the Day (每日一詞), high frequency vocabulary words that you see in academic texts and sometimes on the news. These Tier 2 academic vocabulary words are not exclusive to a single domain and complement the theme-based approach I’ve taken with my mind-mapping vocabulary class. To help students use more precise and common academic phrases, I then added Academic Phrases (每日一句), set phrases that appear in both academic speech and writing. These phrases have varying functions from introducing a topic to comparing and contrasting ideas. There is a difference between speech and writing, so I picked words that could be used for both. If one is used only in a specific context, I will make note of it in the video recording. Last, I will follow up with an abridged version of breaking news (時事英文) with high frequency collocations and audio recordings. This will provide students with the input of not only individual words, but how to use them in output (speech and writing) with context. While all these news posts might seem independent at first, I will eventually link and organize them by theme when there are enough posts. Along with my news class, these extra posts will help students stay aware of current events, acquire set phrases used in journalism, and develop critical thinking. There is a lot of information that we could not fit in a 10 min video, and some parts could be more clearly presented. For example, pauses are entirely natural when one searches for content. This point was stated in the video but went unnoticed by many commenters. Some have also expressed concerns about the clips selected. We selected them based on the following criteria: be related to education, have "spontaneous" interaction, and be in the public domain. Not many clips on the net meet these criteria, and the two above were the only ones we had access to. Last, some comments (from both sides) have accused us of bias. We tried to be as impartial as possible, and if you require more information on our thoughts, please refer to our notes in the video description. As previously stated, both candidates are advanced second language users, and it is not our aim to compare or criticize them. Again, thank you all for your feedback. Wow, this is really intense right now for me. Really. Maybe it’s because it’s the first time I’m showing up as an entrepreneur in front of a crowd.
What is really odd is that I’ve been doing this most of my life. I’ve been giving speeches and performances and talks around the world for crowds ranging from 30 people to 130,000 people but never have I been so uptight and nerve-racking. Maybe it’s because I’m simply put in front of a crowd of academics. I feel that I’m actually out of my league. I do feel that I’m talking to another calibre. I’m left out.

Response: My job is a full-time English teacher. I work as an English private tutor. I offer Internet...I offer language lessons both over the Internet as well as in person.

Response: I work mostly in my office, which is in Mongkok, an area in Hong Kong. At the same time I also go out to shoot videos of me speaking in English outside and anywhere, basically.
Question: Why did you choose this job?
Response: I choose (chose) this job because I really love English. I love speaking it. I love using it. And I love learning it as well as a learner. So that’s why I’ve chosen this job.
Question: Is it a popular job in your country?
Response: I wouldn’t say it’s very popular with locals, but I might say it could be popular with foreigners, expats and native speakers.
Question: Do you get on well with your colleagues?
Response: I don’t have many colleagues but when I have them, I get along okay with them. I get along alright with them, I would say.
Question: What responsibilities do you have at work?
Response: Sometimes I have to mark my students’ assignments. Somtimes I have to shoot videos of me to promote my busness, which is a teaching, a language teaching, tutoring business. At the same time I have to spend most of my time in a day to give lessons.
