Few things make me happier than riding a bicycle, and on this trip, I rode the Yufu Bikeway from Yuli Township, which took me to the fault line created by the collision of the Eurasian and the Philippine Sea plates.
It feels really humbling to stand there. A tiny human on tectonic plates that can move the earth.

The magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck Hualien City, with an intensity of 7, on February 6 has raised questions once again about the safety of Taiwan’s buildings. Many of Taiwan’s buildings are decades old, and built when construction standards were not as high as recent years. That’s especially worrying given Taiwan lies at the junction of two tectonic plates and gets frequent earthquakes. How safe is the building you're living in?
