It is easy to say “I run music and movement activities,” but what goes beyond the props and seemingly similar activities is where the heart of the matter is.

The choice of songs & activities is important, but more so the knowledge of its patterns, underlying functions, and application to both music as well as developmental learning domains.

It is equally important to know how to introduce and scaffold concept to different learners, which requires an understanding of the age group, developmental expectations, as well as differences in learning modalities.

At the end of the day, it’s not just bringing out bells and shaking to the music— it is a process of research, study, practice, in order to understand the most effective ways to bring out the best in each child, while respecting their autonomy in learning.

Just Ask!

In the past six years, we’ve encountered people who sneak in and try to “research” or copy what we do.

Guess what? They don’t need to. We’d answer their questions if they would JUST ASK.

“We want to have a playroom like yours.” - Get @rakoondesign to build one.

“We want to run Kindermusik in our centre.” - I’ll send @kindermusikhk licensing options.

“We want your teachers.” - Get me to train yours.

“We want to know how to operate a centre, what policies and regulations should be.” - Ask me.

Carsten and I entered this industry with the hope of innovating and invigorating— and that others will build upon the collaborative work of our community.

Copying just gives a half-baked concept.

Collaborating, on the other hand, gives all of us a chance to make Hong Kong a better place for children and families 😉

Choose the better option.

There is greater value in collaboration, than in competition.

Hong Kong’s leading #ReggioEmilia expert Rafaella Tung had a vision for nature play, and my husband Carsten Rakutt helped bring it to life!

Ocean Park is embracing the concept of #playbased learning to explore nature, and we can’t wait to see the children coming in today to “get their hands dirty.”

Swing by the #NatureGuardians section of 香港海洋公園 Ocean Park Hong Kong to say hi. Carsten and Rafaella physically built this “Mark’s Mine” section in barely three weeks, and I am so proud of their amazing work.

The Nature Guardians curriculum and concept by Rafaella Tung encourages environmental stewardship from a young age through exploration of nature through their five senses and collaborative efforts.
