The world is weird, and it becomes even more when you get to learn about some of the most unusual laws around. Most of these laws actually still exist, despite we can doubt if they are really respected or not. For instance, in seven USA states, according to their constitutions, atheists are barred from holding public office. That’s just ridiculous, but it’s true. Interracial marriage was still illegal in Alabama in 2000, whilst the Philippines and The Vatican remain the only two states in the world where divorce is still illegal. French legislatures state that it is illegal to marry a dead person.
In Dubai, extramarital sex is against the law and could result in imprisonment for over a year. In the case of a rape, both the victim and the attacker could end up being charged with the same crime.
Allegedly, in Greece police officers are allowed to arrest anyone suspected of having HIV; police are also enabled to force HIV testing and even publicize the names of HIV-positive people and have them evicted from their homes.
