This is my cousin - Singapore’s deepest female freediver and an inspiration to many, myself included! @anqiunderwater inspires me so much with her courage to venture into unchartered waters (literally) and to fight for her passion in this sport that’s unrecognised in Singapore. Beyond that, she’s even made a sustainable business from her love for the earth, cleaning up sea glass from various beaches and turning them into beautiful jewellery. She’s one woman in my life that I’m incredibly proud of!

There are a lot of things I could say about growing up and being lucky enough to have this woman as my Mum. I could talk about how she sacrificed her career to be a SAHM after my sister was born just so that she could take care the both of us. I could talk about all the times she had to constantly meet my Primary School teachers because I was so mischievous. 😅 I could talk about how she had always tried her best to provide me with the best even though we are not well-off.

But maybe I’ll save all of that for another time. Because the most important thing I realise now that I’m much older (and mature) is how much of an influence she has been in my role as a parent. Striving to be more patient and understanding, not raising my voice at the kids (it’s still in a work-in-progress 😆), to be around them during their growing up years – she was and still is my inspiration. Well, all of those and inheriting her disdain for ants too. LOL.

I guess, all this being said, the most important thing I want to say is thank you. Thank you for inspiring me into the Dad I am today. Thank you too, for continuing to take care of the monkies all these years so that the wifey and I go off to work everyday without any worries. The only thing better than having her as my mum is that my children have her for a grandmother.
