Lee Soo Man ประธาน SM Entertainment ประกาศแผนการใหม่เกี่ยวกับวงเกิร์ลกรุปเกาหลีใต้ aespa ว่าจะเตรียมนำนักร้อง K-Pop ในกลุ่มดังกล่าว มาทำเป็นตัวละครเสมือนจริง เพื่อสร้างวง K-Pop นำเสนอเป็นตัวละครสมมุติคล้าย Vocaloid โดยตัวตนจริงยังคงทำกิจกรรมร้องเพลงตามปกติ

SM Entertainment และ Lee Soo Man ได้รับเชิญไปพูดสัมภาษณ์ใน 2020 WCIF (World Cultural Industry Forum) ซึ่ง Lee Soo Man เปิดเผยโปรเจกต์ใหม่เกี่ยวกับวง aespa ว่ามีแผนนำสมาชิกนักร้องในสังกัดเช่น Winter กับ Karina มาทำเป็นตัวละครสมมุติ เพื่อพวกเธอสามารถทำกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ บนโลกดิจิทัล

Lee Soo Man กล่าวว่าไอเดียการสร้าง aespa นั้น มีจุดประสงค์ต้องการให้แฟน ๆ สามารถใกล้ชิดกับศิลปินนักร้องในสังกัดมากยิ่งขึ้น แม้ตอนแรกเขาคิดว่าเป็นเรื่องที่เป็นไปไม่ได้สำหรับวงการบันเทิง แต่ภายหลังเขาตัดสินใจสร้างโปรเจกต์นี้ขึ้นมา เพราะเชื่อมั่นว่าเซเลบกับตัวละครเสมือนจริงสามารถรวมเข้าด้วยกัน แล้วได้รับการสนับสนุนจนกลายเป็นไอเดียปฏิวัติวงการบันเทิงในเกาหลีใต้

Lee Soo Man กล่าวว่าขณะที่สมาชิกนักร้องในสังกัดยังคงมีการร้องเพลง และแสดงสดในชีวิตจริง แต่สมาชิกเสมือนจริงจะมีกิจกรรมแยกต่างหากของตนเองในรูปแบบดิจิทัล
