Boeing reportedly offered license-production of AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter to Korea Aerospace Industries.
According to Defense Times Editor Ahn Seung-Beom, Boeing recently made an offer to KAI which would give KAI the right to locally produce 60 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters.
KAI has already produced AH-64 airframes and this offer would also give them right to produce more airframes for overseas orders.
As we've reported in the past, the Republic of Korea Army, which currently operates 36 AH-64E, plans on acquiring additional aircraft to completely replace the AH-1S Cobra. In addition, the Republic of Korea Marine Corps is in the process of acquiring 24 attack helicopers.
If KAI accepts this deal, South Korea would be the third nation to license-produce the AH-64 after the United Kingdom and Japan, though the latter's effort ended in failure.
The decision is likely long way off, however, since the Ministry of National Defense and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration will be involved as well.
