英國國會「中國研究小組」成立於本 (2020) 年 4 月，成員均為英國國會議員，旨在透過資訊交流與討論，增進英國對中國議題的瞭解，對英國國會有關對中國政策的討論頗具影響力。此次座談會由英國國會下議院外交委員會主席暨該小組主席杜根厚（Tom Tugendhat）率該小組共同發起人歐布萊恩（Neil O’Brien）、外交委員會成員凱恩斯（Alicia Kearns）與史密斯（Royston Smith），及前蘇格蘭及北愛爾蘭事務影子部長洛伊德（Tony Lloyd）等11位議員共同與會，並分別就台英關係、兩岸關係、台美關係及台灣對抗武漢肺炎（COVID-19）疫情的成功經驗等議題與吳釗燮部長廣泛交流。
OK, guys, gather round for story time! This is the story of how #PaddingtonBear made a new friend from #Taiwan over afternoon tea! Well… not really, but while some bear diplomacy was going on in the background between #OhBear and #Paddington, MOFA Minister Joseph Wu was giving an address on "The Risks to Peace and Order in Asia" to the UK House of Commons China Research Group in an online meeting, during which he called for #LikeMindedCountries like the #UK to work together for freedom, stability, and prosperity in the #IndoPacific region.
Eleven MPs took part in the meeting, including Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Tom Tugendhat and Neil O'Brien MP, who launched the #CRG, Foreign Affairs Committee members Alicia Kearns MP, Royston Smith MP and former Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Tony Lloyd MP.
Among the topics discussed were Taiwan-UK relations, cross-strait relations, Taiwan-US relations, the #TaiwanModel of #PandemicPrevention and the restructuring of global supply chains.
