日本語では、使い古したものや劣化した状態を「ボロボロ」と表現しますが、英語ではどのように表現していますか？実は英語では、擬音語はほとんど使われないため、日本語の擬音語を英語で表現する際に、悩む人も少なくないのではないでしょうか。

→「ボロボロ / 擦り切れている / 履き古されている」

Wornはwearの過去分詞で、原形である「Wear out」は「使い古す」や「すり減らす」を意味します。「Worn out」は、「Be動詞」＋「Worn out」の組み合わせで用いられ、洋服や靴などが使い古されてボロボロになった状態を表す時によく使われます。

✔「ボロボロの〜」→「Worn-out _____」

「Beat up」は、「beat-up car（使い古された車）」のように主に車に対して使われる表現です。洋服の場合は「Worn out」を使って表現した方が自然ではありますが、「beat-up clothes」と表現することもできます。しかし、ボロボロの車を「worn out car」とは言いませんので注意しましょう。
