I get real reflective on weekday nights (for some reason haha) and I realised that life these days have been so good to me. Not gonna lie, I never had a particularly happy time growing up.. in school... There wasn’t really a time that I could say I was happy, HAPPY. But now, I can safely say that I am 😊 as cliche as it sounds, I think it’s because of the presence of these young people that I work and have surrounded myself with that teach me so much everyday. It gave my job so much more meaning and it makes work not feel like “work”! If y’all have been following my content for awhile now you would know that I’m absolutely close to my girls (interns and assistant alike) and we go way more than colleagues, even after they leave!

I’m rambling I know. But I wanted to take this reflective post to say that I miss every one of you girls (those not pictured too❤️) & I love ya!

The Only Resolution You Need for the New Year

When you place the pressure on yourself to get things done, it can bring you under the Law.

“I will not....”, “I must do this”, etc.

New Year resolutions don’t help. Willpower and self-discipline can produce temporary results, but the works of the flesh aren’t lasting and often come with undesirable tradeoffs.

Are you willing to double your income and damage your health in the process just to fulfill a new year resolution by your own strength?
You’ll end up paying the money you’ve earned to the hospital!

Are you trying to lose weight by extreme dieting? You’re depriving your body of important nutrients it needs, and not to mention that terrible rebound when you stop dieting. It’s not a long term solution.

What we need is to repeatedly refocus our spiritual eyes back to Jesus whenever we are tempted to look away from Him.

The prefix “re-“ can have the meaning of “once more; afresh; anew”.

Jesus is the New Year re-Solution we need. Have a problem? Go to Jesus once more. Need wisdom? Receive from Jesus afresh. Feeling fearful or worried about something? Meditate on Jesus’ love anew.

I was just reading one of my favorite psalms 139 and allowing it to fill me with a sense of God’s love, and I was particular drawn to this passage:

“If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me; the light around me will be night”; even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.” (Psalms‬ ‭139:11-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Our eyes need light to see. Even with perfect eyesight, we can’t see in total darkness.

It’s okay, because to Jesus, the darkness is still as clear as light. Nothing is hidden from His sight, so rely on Him to give you wisdom.
Jesus is most willing to share what He sees with you.

The year 2020 ahead may seem like pitch blackness because you can’t see the future, but Jesus knows what is ahead.

Ask Him to remove the pitfalls, give you wisdom to face the challenges and to give you favor in every situation.
As you follow His leading through His Spirit inside you, He will guide you by the hand to navigate through the darkness, into a good place!

The one with perfect 20/20 vision in 2020 is Jesus! Follow Him and you will see clearly through Him.

“You crown the year with Your bounty, And Your paths overflow.” (Psalms‬ ‭65:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

You may not be able to see where He’s leading you, but as you walk in Jesus’ paths by faith, you will find them overflowing with His bounty (abundant blessings)!

The religious leaders of Israel did not enter by the door (Jesus) meaning they didn’t get saved through faith, but they practiced and taught justification by obedience to their man-made doctrines.
In this context, the shepherd who enters by the door refers to Jesus, but true pastors (shepherds) also enter by the door (Jesus) — they are saved by Grace through faith in Jesus, and they teach that to their congregations as well.
The gatekeeper (or doorkeeper) is the Law.
The only way to appease and fulfill the requirements of the Law is to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior — Jesus fulfilled the Law on our behalf.
Then the door will open to you and you will enter into eternal life.
If you are a sheep (believer) then you will hear Jesus’ voice through the Holy Spirit that indwells you — not hearing it audibly through your ears, but speaking from within your heart.
The shepherd (Jesus) goes out before the sheep — Jesus will prepare your way and lead you in the direction you should go.
“A stranger” refers to any false preacher or teacher, including the religious leaders of Israel who taught false man-made doctrines.
If you’re a believer with the Holy Spirit inside you, you will be able to discern true teaching from false teaching based on the peace or absence of peace in your heart when you hear it.
The sheep didn’t listen to the thieves and robbers who came before Jesus — the people of Israel were disinterested in the things taught by the religious leaders of Israel because they could perhaps sense that it wasn’t true.
The moment you enter by the door (Jesus) by faith, you are saved and have eternal life.
You can come in and go out freely — you have more freedom and access than unbelievers — the Christian life is not small and restricted.
Unbelievers can’t access the sheepfold beyond the door. You can!
The devil is definitely a thief who kills, steals and destroys, but the passage above is not talking about the devil — in this context, the “thief” refers to the religious leaders of Israel.
They killed the people by stealing the true meaning of the Scriptures from them, destroying their lives.
On the other hand, Jesus came to give eternal life to anyone who believes in Him. Not just to let believers barely survive, but to enjoy abundant life — all the benefits of eternal life and the gift of righteousness.
