Excited to announce that an exhibition I've been working on is finally here in collaboration with Johan F. Hoorn (an interfaculty full professor of computing and design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, specialising in social robotics) and David Hanson (creator of the first AI humanoid robot in the world and founder of AI and robotics company Hanson Robotics).

The Sparkle: Not Alive Yet Bright

Opening talk: "The Creativeness of the Universe and How Robots Tap into its Sparkles" hosted by artist Prof. Hoorn will start at 19:00pm.

Exhibition Period: 8th July - 15th August 2021
Opening Hours: 12:30pm - 18:30pm Wednesday to Sunday (Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays)
Venue: The Catalyst, G/F, no. 2 Po Yan Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong (上環普仁街2號地下)

All are welcome to come to the opening and explore the magic of Art-ificial Creativity: Robots Making Art, Art for Robots, Art about Robots.

This exhibition of creative robots, poetry from the command prompt, urban signs, and innovative calligraphy emerged from the idea that art ‘does not live’ but does carry the sparkle, is capable of touching people. ‘Artifices’ such as robots and computer systems are not alive but do create art or can come up with intelligent solutions. Which tells us that physical nature is inherently creative, a secret but exciting message from artificial life!

【澄清啟事】所羅門的智慧

平素說話，從不兜彎轉，總覺得，懂我的，不必解釋；不懂我的，無謂解釋！因為無論怎樣，都影響不了朋友們對我的信任，最重要的是，兒子及丈夫絕不會減少對我的愛。

認識我的人都知道，我做人從來是「我不貪別人一分，別人也別搶奪我一毫」！雖説「清者自清」、「公道自在人心」恍似老土話，但大底這些年來行走江湖做得好事多，今日收到逾百人傳來老土的安慰話，有好友、有學生、有校長、有律師、有同事，有曾經合作的夥伴，甚至有讀者，這些年來我的付出，他們都看在眼裏，最後就如「所羅門的故事」，任誰都清楚慈悲的婦人才是孩子的真正母親 。

“God delights in surprising the world by doing great things through small people” - 作為母親的我，只繼續希望以微小的力量做出大事，讓我們的孩子在這個充滿缺陷與仇恨的社會裡，也能健康與快樂地成長，長大後以不退一寸也不失一毫的態度，成為一個不亢不卑、光明磊落的大人，像我縱然面對散播謠言的人也不為所動。唯一需要回應的只有以下4點：
1）那些子虛烏有的指控，本人全部否認；
2）本人因與股東意見嚴重分歧，於去年5月28日已辭去Mameshare 所有職務；
3）本人於去年6月已入稟勞資審裁處，向Mameshare追討欠薪；有關案件已進入司法程序，暫時沒有補充；
4）其他於去年6月已交由律師循法律途徑處理與Mameshare母公司其他股東的爭議。

其他的，我早已練成金剛不壞之身，也只能交託天父安排，又或者正如家母常説：「自己幸福就好，唔好理人咁多⋯⋯嗰啲成日諗住害人，或者唔想人好嘅人，其實都好可憐！幸福嘅人有邊有時間去成日做啲損人不利己嘅事呀？」請大家以幸福還擊敵人，並繼續在喧嘩中禱告，以仁與愛為我們的孩子帶路，讓善良的種子遍地開花！🙏🏻💖

P.S. 對於聲譽嚴重受損，我保留法律追究權利，並已委托律師撰寫「澄清啟事」發放給傳媒如下：

STATEMENT OF ELAINE TANG REGARDING DCCJ 572/2021

I refer to the proceedings commenced against me by Mameshare Limited in the District Court (DCCJ 2571/2021). I would like to make the following statement:

1. I founded Mameshare Limited (“Mameshare”) in June 2017. Mameshare was my own start-up business. Mameshare was, and still is responsible for operating an online facebook platform named “Mameshare (分享媽)” sharing news or information about nurturing children or teenagers in Hong Kong (the “Business”). I devoted all my efforts to the operation and management of the Business until my resignation as a director in May 2020.

2. In or around November 2017, Chan Kwok Bun (“Chan”) and his partner approached me for a proposed investment into Mameshare. They became beneficially interested in Mameshare soon after.

3. Unfortunately, a dispute arose between me and Chan from around September 2019 regarding his conduct of the Business. The dispute continued until around May 2020 when I had no alternative but to resign from my directorship in Mameshare. I commenced proceedings in the Labour Tribunal in June 2020 for unpaid wages. In July 2020, I sought legal advice on the shareholders’ dispute with Chan.

4. It is disheartening to see that I am now being sued by the very company that I built up from scratch. Whilst I deny all the alleged claims against me as being completely unsubstantiated, it is not appropriate for me to comment any further given the ongoing proceedings. It shall suffice for me to say that, at all times until my resignation, I had dutifully, faithfully and honestly discharged my role as a director of Mameshare. I am confident that the Court’s ultimate findings will vindicate myself.

5. It remains for me to thank my family, friends and colleagues for their continuous support.

Interview with A Founder: Alvin Kwock (Co-founder of OneDegree )

Alvin Kwock is the Co-founder of OneDegree, an alumnus from AppWorks Accelerator #16. Founded in 2016, OneDegree is a technology startup aiming to become the next-generation insurance industry leader in Asia. The company hit a major milestone in April this year when it received a virtual insurance license, making it one of the first batch of firms authorized to sell insurance through online-only channels in Hong Kong. Since then, OneDegree has launched the city’s first pure medical insurance for pets, which will be followed by cyber and health insurance products and more.

【Having such a fruitful year, can you recall the most challenging / rewarding moment that you have come across during your start-up journey?】

Our earliest days, fundraising and try to win trust from potential investors, were definitely the most challenging. In order to operate legally, we had to apply for an insurance license, which required at least US$30 million of paid-in capital. We met with many investors and there were some who turned us down immediately, telling us there was no way we can raise that amount at a pre-revenue stage. However, we were tenacious and just kept pitching. One investor in particular said no to us 3 times, but we eventually won their support on the 4th attempt. Our technology is our moat, and we worked hard to demonstrate to investors and partners the revolutionary nature of what OneDegree can offer. A big insurance firm, which approached us about a partnership, told us that they could spend US$100 million and still not be able to replicate the powerful insurance core platform OneDegree has built. Getting to where we are today was not easy, hurdle after hurdle, but an incessant belief in our mission helped us get through all the challenges.

【As a founder, what would be some advice for newcomers starting their business?】

Creative thinking is often emphasized as the most important skill or attribute for entrepreneurs. However, in my own experience, building trust is even more important. Trust is an effective tool to facilitate transfer of your creativity to the people who work with you. Over half of our employees are shareholders of OneDegree, which contributes to an environment of trust and collaboration. I believe that a team can only be successful if it plays together. To build trust with clients, we have to show them that we have the ability to deliver and to consistently provide them with something of value. We demonstrated this through our debut insurance product. For example, we pledged to pay out claims within 2 days – much faster than traditional insurers – and we’ve managed to deliver on that.

【Eventually, what impact do you want to have?】

OneDegree’s goal is to become the gold standard in the insurance industry. We aspire not only to serve customers of our insurance business, but also to maximize the impact through partnerships with like-minded insurers, banks and eCommerce channels globally. We want to make the insurance experience entirely seamless for our customers, and we will be relentless about this. Settling claims within 2 days may sound fast today, but it is not too hard to imagine that in a few years’ time the process may only take minutes, or even seconds, to complete. We strive to be at the forefront of change, helping insurance companies become more efficient and making it easier for all end users to get the protection they need, with a simple click or tap on their devices. This is the impact I want to have.
