Its strange to be back in the almost sweltering heat of Malaysia. After 6 days of intense freezing, its a little hard to get used to the heat here. The very next day I landed I had a full day shoot, all whilst being sick. But that's okay, life of a freelancer.

Day 5 in Vietnam was just a continuation of the cruise in Ha Long Bay. We took a Kayak early morning to a small beach to just relax and kayaked back for lunch. The boat took us to a pier where we headed back to Hanoi. Essentially the same thing minus the freezing cold. Didn't do much exploring as it was just looking around the city area which is something I appreciated. After an intense couple of days running from one place to another it was nice to just look around. I wanted to try if there was anything unique in Vietnam McDonald's but there wasn't any. Quite disappointed as I remembered trying a pork burger in Thailand.

Anyways, the trip concluded a few days ago and I'm quite happy to be back here. Travelling is fun when you always have somewhere to come back to. Had a great trip and rest and excited to see what 2019 has to bring.

About the EOS R

It was a really good experience taking the EOS R to Vietnam for this trip. I was a little hesitant as first as its a very new camera to me and I was afraid that I would miss shots. The ergonomics and layout of this camera is very different from previous Canon camera but to my surprise, it was really easy to get used to it. The menu system was the same as any other Canon menu system, the adapted lenses I used had ZERO issues whatsoever and the weather sealing held up to the rain. Image quality was on par with my 5D and overall it was a joy to use. If you gave me a choice, I would more than likely pick up the 5D instead of the R solely because I know the 5D inside and out. I've been using it for a long time and I know what makes the camera work incase of an emergency.

Most photographer quote that the best camera is the one you have with you but I disagree. The best camera is the one you master. Give me another week or 2 with the R, and I would gladly pick it for any work I do, professionally or casually. For me, the R represents the true hybrid between a photographer and filmmaker. Whilst it is not perfect, it is a camera that works no matte what, with image quality that is more than adequate for any use you throw at it. It is an amazing camera and you will not go wrong with it, despite what the internet might tell you. Remember that you make the images, not the camera. Specs can help you but you need to master your camera first to get images that are impactful. Once again, I want to thank @Canon Malaysia for lending me the camera to try out for the trip!
