HOW TO CRAFT THE RIGHT RESEARCH THEMES WHICH ARE INDUSTRY-DRIVEN TO GET MORE GRANTS

We would kindly invite you in the fraternity of higher learning institutions to join this eye-bird session of how big data and A.I. can help universities - both public and private - put their hands on the hearts in finding the themes of R&D which have the potential of industry-linked or driven.

The ultimate aim is to ascertain areas of reaearch and to prepare the template of R&D in a smarter and quicker way, perhaps in a new way. The engine behind this exercise is big data analytics and A.I.

This programme is open to the public. By the way, we have also launched dedicated programme to respective universities upon request. This will be more of in-house programme to cater for a particular university. Thus far, a few universities have confirmed to hold a dedicated training programme amongst their lecturers. We will try to accommadate your request on first come first serve basis.

We are excited to share the way we do things by leveraging on smart technology even in the area of R&D and its linkage with various lines of corporate and business sector. It has been always inspiring and rewarding.

The role:
We are looking for a generalist, who is eager to learn and has an eye for detail. As a Junior BI Analyst, you will be using different tools to
- Develop and automate internal & external reports
Build dashboards to visualize quantitative information
- Maintain database and other documents
- Fulfill ad-hoc requests

Who we look for – the ideal profile:
- Intermediate English and above
- From 6 months of experience in Ecommerce or in a data-driven position of other industries.
- Advanced Excel and Google sheet is a must.
- Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills is a must.
- Good communication & ability to probe for users’ data needs.
- Ability to operate independently as well as work in a team.
- Good fit with our company culture: collaborative, open, humble, driven, analytical, structured,
professional, fun, passionate, entrepreneurial with a hands-on - “Can do” mindset

Good to have
- Basic understanding of data modeling is preferred.
- Some experience with languages for ETL such as SQL, Python is a plus.
- Some experience with data visualization tools such as Data Studio, Power BI, Tableau, etc. is a
plus.

Humanitarian Funding

On last Tuesday, I spoke on humanatarian funding in this great event on International Humanitarian Conference organised by Mercy Malaysia.

I prepared 5 points to share with all the participants. Due to time constraint, I just touched on 4 points only. The whole speech is available on my FB live (Shariah Minds) with 2 to 3 minute interuption due to poor internet connection.

I touched on making volunterism work as social currency which has the commercial value and which can be funded through wakaf and zakat. I have already mooted the idea of waqf of services (waqf al-khadamat) two years ago in one of Ramadhan iftar programmes at Mercy Malaysia. I later designed a session on this theme at 2019 Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum whereby I moderated the whole session. The time has come to create a new social currency in the humanitarian work for the benefit of voluenteers, recipients and all stakeholders (for integrity, transprency and impact measurement purposes).

Then I talked with extra care on the permissiblility of zakat to non-muslims under the category of humanitarian work cum fi sabilillah category, as one of the beneficiaries of zakat as enshrined in the Quran. The reserach is still going on. Give me some time to accomplish.

Then I was rushing to talk about the importance of all NGOs to act together to create one umbrella fund to solicit funding from Islamic financial institutions and Islamic funds targeting the tainted income which needs to be purified to charity anyway.

Last but not least, I stressed on the importance for all NGOs to work together to jointly develop and own one standard smart apps using the cloud technology to manage the whole processes from profiling, SOPs, reporting, impact measurement, etc to be in line with IR 4.0 and more importantly to get the buy in from everyone as everyting is now open, transparent, of distributed ledger, GPS driven, etc.

I have quoted one mantra in USA to end my presentation; "In God we believe, in data we trust".

After the speech, I was so happy to see Tan Sri Jemilah who is the 'mother' of humanitarian in Islamic world. She gave her life behind the line. She is a legend.
