元宵快乐。
To Malaysians, the official name for 15th day of a Luna new year is known as Chap Goh Mei, a transliteration of the festive’s name in Hokkien dialect — the 15th night.
While 元宵节 (Yuan Xiao Jie) which is the official name in Chinese language, actually means Prime Night Festival.
We don’t call it Lantern Festival, which is the official English name for this festival internationally. Named that way cause lanterns are being celebrated in China on this day.
To us in Malaysia, lanterns are to be celebrated during Mooncake Festival. Yah. We don’t call that Lantern Festival neither, we celebrate lanterns but what we eat then takes the front seat instead.
Go figure. Hahaha. Happy Chap Goh Mei!

If you have dialect-speaking family members who are hesitant about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, do show them this series of Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 videos.
They feature healthcare frontliners speaking in Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Hainanese, and Teochew. All have taken the vaccine, and explain to seniors why vaccination is important, effective and safe. A very good effort by all involved!
Our vaccination exercise is going well. Thank you to all who have gone for your jabs, particularly if you are a senior! Let’s all do our part to keep Singapore safe. – LHL

This is Chinese Braised Pork with Soy Sauce. In Hokkien dialect, we called it “Tau Yu Bak”. It’s a type of Nyonya dish and are very popular among Chinese. Just cook with very simple ingredients, but the after taste are deliciously satisfying. Very comfort to the heart and soul. Especially when ure far away from home. 💯❤️

This Chinese Pork Belly with Taro is a traditional Hakka dish. For some of your benefit, Hakka is a Chinese dialect group. As far as I know, Hakka dishes are usually pretty flavourful - I know it because my grandparents are pure Hakka even though my maternal grandparents are pure Hokkien so I get to enjoy dishes from both dialect groups since young. You gotta try this super easy to prepare dish. You can either steam it in your rice cooker just like we did in this video or over the stove as you wish.
See the ingredient list below for your easy reference.
Hope you can recreate this yummy dish in the comfort of your home. Thanks for dropping by our channel.
