We sent a photo of this to a friend in China and she didn’t recognize it. Bryan told me “chili is an American invention!” I replied I thought it was Mexican, or maybe Texan in origin. We had to consult Siri/Alexa/OKGoogle to confirm. 😂 [yes - from northern Mexico/southern Texas!! 😱]. In any event, it has most certainly become a very American dish and I made a huge batch this week. This version was simple & tasty. I used many different chili 🌶 powders & spices for complexity, including ancho chili, chipotle chili, oregano, smoked paprika, and cumin. Threw in a bunch of veggies (mirepoix, kabocha squash 🎃, 1 can black beans, 2 small cans of diced 🍅), about 1 lb ground beef, plus avocado 🥑 topping. Yum!!
