CheckCheckCin:口瘡(即生飛滋)是口舌表面潰爛的傷口,熱氣是常見導致口瘡的成因,但並非唯一原因,從中醫角度來看,陰虛火炎、中氣虛弱的人也容易出現口瘡,陰虛火炎的人因為過勞、思慮過多和熬夜,耗傷心陰以致陰虛火旺,令口瘡反覆發作,兼有心煩失眠、手足心熱的情況,需要滋陰清火,適量食用石斛、花旗參、雪耳、雪梨、百合等滋陰食材,如果以為熱氣不斷灌涼茶,只會造成陰陽俱虛,有可能令情況更嚴重。
而中氣虛弱的人口瘡亦會反覆發作,但疼痛度較輕,伴隨症狀為食慾差、疲倦乏力、氣短、腹部有脹氣、大便質軟等,需要補中益氣治理,適量食用黨參、北芪、大棗、薯仔、番薯等補氣食材。如果不清楚自己體質及口瘡成因,宜諮詢註冊中醫師了解,以下提供口瘡外洗方,有助紓緩口瘡症狀。
口瘡外洗方
功效:清熱解毒
材料:金銀花9克、黃連9克
做法:材料洗淨,以200毫升熱水焗5-10分鐘至茶香味透出,放涼後即可以棉花棒塗在口瘡患處。
注意:此茶只能外用,一日三次,連續使用至口瘡好轉

Nourish the yin and replenish qi to relieve canker sores
“I’ve been drinking a lot of cooling herbal tea, but I still have canker sores. What can I do?”
CheckCheckCin: Canker sore refers to lesions that develop on the soft tissues of the mouth and tongue. Body heat is often the cause of canker sores, but is not the only cause. From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, individuals who have heat and are deficient of yin, and those that have a weak qi, will also develop canker sores easily.
Individuals become heaty and deficient of yin due to fatigue, high anxiety and staying up late, and this would cause canker sore. Other accompanying symptoms are irritability, insomnia, and warm palms and foot soles. Consume an appropriate amount of ingredients that can nourish the yin and clear heat, such as, fox nut, American ginseng, snow fungus, snow pear and lily bulb. If you think drinking cooling herbal tea can help clear heat, you might be risking of damaging both the yin and yang, thus worsening the condition.
As for individuals with asthenic qi, canker sores will also recur all the time, but the pain will be milder. Accompanying symptoms include poor appetite, fatigue, shortness of breath, bloating and loose stools. Individuals need to undergo treatment to strengthen qi; consume an appropriate amount of Codonopsis Root, Astragalus root, Chinese date, potato and sweet potato.
Individuals who do not know their body condition, or the cause of canker sore, should consult registered and licensed Chinese physicians. Kindly refer to the remedy below to help relieve canker sore.
External rinse recipe
Effects: clears heat and detoxifies
Ingredients: 9g honeysuckle, 9g coptis chinensis
Preparation: rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Brew the ingredients with 200ml hot water and steep for 5-10 minutes until aroma develops. When cooled, you can apply the tea with cotton swabs to the canker sores affected area.
Notes: for external use only. Apply three times a day. Use consecutively until the canker sore improves.

懶人必煮番茄飯🍅
飲食潮流變得很快,還記得曾經紅極一時的整個番茄飯嗎?煮飯時將一個完整番茄放入鍋中與米一同煮熟,待飯熟時番茄一壓就變成茄蓉,拌勻就成為美味的番茄飯。這個煮法尤其適合容易令人食慾不振的夏天,從中醫角度來看,番茄有生津止渴、健胃助消化功效,適量的酸味食物可以刺激食慾,亦能促進胃酸分泌。而且熟吃番茄能吸收茄紅素,有抗氧化及保護心臟健康等作用。
番茄 — 性涼,有生津止渴、健胃助消化功效,適合發熱口乾、食慾不振者食用,它亦有護膚美白的功效。惟注意番茄性涼,胃寒人士不宜食用,寒性痛經女士在月經期間勿吃,胃酸過多者不宜空腹食用。
原個番茄三文魚飯
材料:米1杯、番茄1個、三文魚柳2件、急凍枝豆50克、粟米粒50克、橄欖油少許、鹽少許、黑胡椒少許
做法:
1. 米洗淨加入飯煲中,加入正常煮飯份量的水,加入橄欖油、鹽及黑胡椒拌勻。
2. 番茄洗淨,切去蒂部,底部用刀𠝹十字,蒂部朝下放在米粒中間。
3. 三文魚柳切粒,連同枝豆及粟米粒平均放在番茄周圍。
4. 按掣煮飯,飯熟後將番茄搗爛,與所有材料拌勻即可。

Tomato rice for laidback individuals
Trends in diet evolve rapidly. Do you remember tomato rice, which used to be extremely popular? When cooking rice, place an entire tomato into the cooker. Mash the tomato into paste and mix it with the cooked rice, and there you have it, delicious tomato rice.
This recipe is especially suitable for consumption when we develop a loss of appetite during summer. From the Chinese medicine perspective, tomato can promote saliva secretion and quench one’s thirst, strengthen the stomach and encourage digestion. An appropriate amount of food with sour taste can stimulate the appetite, and the secretion of gastric acid. Moreover, eating cooked tomato also helps with the absorption of lycopene, which has anti-oxidant properties as well as help maintain cardiovascular health.
Tomato – cool in nature, can promote saliva secretion and quench one’s thirst, suitable for individuals with dry mouth (xerostomia) and appetite loss. It can also brighten and whiten the skin. Since tomato is cool in nature, it is not suitable for individuals with asthenic cold in the stomach and women who experience cold-related menstrual pain. Those with excessive gastric acid secretion problem should not consume it with an empty stomach.
Whole tomato salmon rice
Ingredients: 1 cup of rice, 1 tomato, 2 salmon fillets, 50g frozen edamame, 50g corn, olive oil, salt & black pepper
Preparation:
1. Rinse rice, add rice and water in rice cooker, add olive oil, salt & black pepper.
2. Rinse tomato and remove stalk, slice a cross at the bottom, and place the entire tomato with rice.
3. Dice salmon fillets, put salmon, edamame and corn evenly around the tomato.
4. Start rice cooker, when done mash tomato into paste and mix well with other ingredients.

自家醃酸青木瓜
夏天熱得要命,而從中醫角度來看,夏天宜適量食用酸味食物,因為酸性收斂,可預防流汗過多而耗氣傷陰,吃酸味食物時口水分泌增加,又能達生津止渴、健胃消食的功效。今個周末不如就試試自己醃漬酸木瓜,這個食譜以一比一的比例,將水、糖、白醋加在一起,再放冰箱醃製一晚就可以了!注意胃酸過多、脾胃虛弱人士不宜多吃喔。
醃酸青木瓜
材料:青木瓜1個、白米醋2杯、砂糖2杯 、水2杯
做法:
1. 青木瓜去皮去籽,切成方糖般大小的方粒。
2. 材料加入鹽搓勻並放置約30分鐘讓材料出水,把水倒掉後洗淨,擠乾水份。
3. 白米醋加入水及砂糖,以文火煮至糖溶化,熄火放涼備用。
4. 將青木瓜放入已消毒的玻璃瓶中,倒入糖醋,確保醋蓋過所有材料,密封蓋子醃漬一晚即可食用,醃漬時間越長越入味。
注意:宜於一星期內食用。

Homemade pickled green papaya
The weather can be unbearably hot in the summer. From Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, sour food is good to be eaten in summer because acid exhibits constringent properties and thus, making sour food effective in preventing depletion of qi energy and damage of yin energy from excessive sweating. Furthermore, when eating sour food, not only would the increased saliva production help to quench thirst, it also helps with strengthening the stomach and promoting food digestion.
Over this weekend, why not try to make your own pickled green papaya?
This recipe follows a one-to-one ratio for water, sugar and white vinegar. Mix all three ingredients and the papaya together, leave them in the fridge to marinate overnight and voila, they’re done!
However, people with increased gastric acid secretion, or weak spleen and stomach function should limit themselves from eating too much of the dish.
Pickled green papaya
Ingredients: 1 green papaya, 2 cups of rice vinegar, 2 cups of white sugar, 2 cups of water
Preparation:
1. Peel and core papaya and cut into cubes
2. Add salt to papaya and rest for 30 minutes until water comes out, rinse and drain.
3. Mix rice vinegar with water and white sugar, cook on medium heat till sugar melted, turn off the heat to cool down.
4. Put the papaya into sterilized glass gar, pour with the sugar vinegar to cover the papaya. Seal the jar to marinate overnight to serve. More flavorful of longer marinated time.
Note: Best to consume within a week.
