🔎第一階段: 準備作品集、履歷
履歷必須要讓雇主在瞬間認識你,至少要讓他在第一輪海選的時候留下你,再進一步考慮你。
🔺Part 1. 景觀設計師撰寫履歷的6個重點:
1️⃣ 看完一定要被記得的優點是?
平均一份cv只被閱讀10幾秒,除了排版格式務必清楚好閱讀,簡潔扼要、有邏輯的條列式、重點加粗放前面等技巧別忘記,最重要的是如何讓幾秒掃過你履歷的人,記得你的優點和考慮雇用你的可能性。
2️⃣ 展現個人美感特色
想成為設計師的第一步,有個人特色的設計是必須的。履歷盡可能與Portfolio呼應,讓讀者有記憶點。
3️⃣ 展現特殊才華或其他經歷
景觀設計是需要團隊合作的,因此能否在團體中與人溝通融洽、同時也能獨立作業? 或是領導一個團隊,也都是評審的重點。亮眼的學經歷的背後,即使跟景觀設計完全沒關係,如果能體現以上這些軟技能或其他個人特色,便能加分許多。
4️⃣ 危機也是轉機
通常學經歷中如果有gap year,可以想想怎麼寫可以讓他成為你的優勢,或著是轉換 跑道的朋友,可以強調你''喜觀學習各種事物,而接觸景觀後找到自己的志趣所在''等。
5️⃣ 學校資源請多利用
學校都會有career service部門提供cv模板或舉辦講座/workshop,帶著你寫cv,或是有修稿服務也不要錯過。另外,請教有經驗的前輩們,在國外找工作更可以少去許多冤枉路。
6️⃣ 盡早準備、時時更新
正規的CV需要有2名references(推薦人),建議盡早準備好CV和Portfolio聯繫比較熟的老師當推薦人。另外別忘了定期更新履歷。

🔎STAGE 1: Preparation of Portfolio, CV
Your CV must capture your employer’s attention to learn about you and what you can offer to them immediately and effectively. This would allow your potential employer to identify and consider your application out of the hundreds of other entries they have received.
🔺Part 1 - 6 key points a landscape architect should consider in their CV
1️⃣ Creating a memorable CV.
An employer spends an average of 10 seconds browsing through each CV. Make your CV easy to read, concise and logically structured with a clear layout.
Remember to emphasize and highlight specific skills and key values that show that you are not only suitable for the job but would also be a good fit to the company.
Keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to capture your employer’s attention, remember your strengths and convince them to hire you.
2️⃣ A Designer’s Aesthetics.
The first steps of becoming a designer is to develop a sense of style and character in your works. It is crucial that your CV and Portfolio both echo the same key theme and message. This would help establish an identity that would make your application much more memorable.
3️⃣ What can you offer other than academic experience?
Landscape architecture is a multidisciplinary profession that revolves heavily around teamwork. Mentioning soft skills and personal qualities such as being an adaptable team-player who can also work independently or even lead a team would be strengths that set you apart from other applicants.
4️⃣ With change brings new opportunities.
For students who have a gap year in their academic studies, think about how you can include this additional experience to your advantage.
For career switchers, you can consider sharing how your previous experiences have sculpted your design journey, your joy and curiosity of learning different subjects and how you finally found interest within the realm of landscape architecture.
5️⃣ Making the Most of Your University’s Resources.
Every university would have a career service department which provides CV templates or hold lectures/workshops that give guidance in writing your CV, checking and reviewing it.
Reaching out to experienced graduates and peers for their advice regarding overseas job applications would also help reduce the amount of time and effort spent on unnecessary work and improve success rates.
6️⃣ Prepare early and update frequently.
A CV would normally require you to include 2 letter of recommendations (Referees). It is recommended that you plan ahead and prepare your CV and Portfolio as early as possible for review.
At the same time, approach professors/advisors who know you well, ask for their permission and request them to be your referee – It is time-consuming to write and they might have multiple request as well, give buffer time! Meanwhile, remember to update your CV regularly.

【你不知道的檯面下CEO - Chief of Staff】
前陣子有個臉友請我看了履歷,我看他履歷上寫著admin,問他是做什麼工作,他說是總經理特助,幫忙追蹤大老闆要的案子進度,做大老闆的左右手。哎呀!Admin在美國指的是負責辦公室雜務的秘書,不管真正的業務,和大老闆旁邊丞相的角色Chief of Staff(参謀長、特助)差遠了,Chief of Staff說穿了權力可比檯面下的CEO呢!
Chief of Staff 是一個大公司大老闆旁邊才有的位子,這個人扮演重要的老闆左右手的角色,實際參與老闆出席的會議,追蹤會議決議應該要執行的單位進度,誇張一點甚至可以說她/他是「真正做事的CEO」或是「丞相、公公、心腹」的角色,是一人之下、萬人之上的角色,通常這個角色政治手腕一流,八面玲瓏,擁有專案管理能力、思路清晰,規劃縝密,整整齊齊、條理分明。
不同的,一般來說Secretary(秘書)及Administrative Assistant(行政助理,簡稱Admin)都是老闆秘書助理的角色,有人說行政助理比秘書高階一點,但常可見公司交互用這兩個名稱,通常是處理安排會議時間、訂機票、預約餐廳等事宜。看似小角色,他們可是掌握你能不能跟大老闆約到恰到好的時間的重要關口,不過跟Chief of Staff可是天差地遠。
我想外國人可能不容易拿到Chief of Staff這個位子,不過寫履歷的時候可別搞混了!

【The Under Table CEO - Chief of Staff】
I recently helped a FB follower review his resume. He described himself as “Admin” on resume. I asked what he did and realized he is actually a “Chef of Staff” who is almost like the CEO who actually does work. They are very different and don’t get confused!
The title chief of staff identifies the leader of a complex organization, institution, or body of persons and it also may identify a principal staff officer, who is the coordinator of the supporting staff or a primary aide-de-camp to an important individual, such as a president.
In general, a chief of staff provides a buffer between a chief executive and that executive's direct-reporting team. The chief of staff generally works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are brought to the chief executive. Often chiefs of staff act as a confidante and advisor to the chief executive, acting as a sounding board for ideas.
On another hand, secretaries and administrative assistants is more focus on office housework. Although their titles are often used interchangeably, secretaries and administrative assistants actually perform different jobs.
In most organizations an administrative assistant has a higher degree of responsibility than a secretary does. Secretaries often serve as receptionists, greeting people as they enter an office, answer phones, forward calls and make appointments. Administrative assistants generally can, and often do, perform all the responsibilities of a secretary, but then much more. Instead of just making appointments, they might organize, schedule and create agendas for meetings and conferences.
I think is not easy for foreigners to be a Chief of Staff but when you write your resume, don’t mess up the two titles!

近日的出差,到一位患有重病的年青人住處,勘察其陽宅風水。在其門外打開羅盤看坐山向首時,他快速地稱呼吾,並開門迎接吾及吾的徒弟學生們。吾當然也禮貌地抬頭回禮,可是吾的看見,不祇是這位年輕人而已,吾更看見其身上的「業印」。
親愛的諸位大德,妳你們可曾記得,吾之前的作品,《你妳的「欠」影》及《他她的「背」影》呢?有些人的怨親債主及纏身業靈比較少,其家庭、健康、事業、感情、生意等各方面的問題、就沒什麼問題,或較遲才出問題。有些怨親債主,及纏身業靈多的,其各方面定較早出問題。正所謂;善惡到頭終有報,祇爭來早與來遲。
看了這位年青人的陽宅風水後,吾和徒弟及學生們,馬不停蹄地飛奔市區,趕赴一對學生夫婦的飯局。飯局後,吾親自為她他們挑選幾件能為她他們「遮雨擋風」的衣服。佛說無常迅速。吾細心為她他們挑選的這些「擋風遮雨」的衣服,是希望吾不在她他們的身邊時,她他們可以平安吉祥。
原本健康、快樂、如意的我們,不應該得意忘形。反而應該趁我們「盛狀」的時候,快快懺悔己過、行善佈施、積累更厚的福報,以備「急時之需」。千萬不要以我們永遠都會好,也千萬不要常想常說,心好就好。如果心好,為何又推拒與人為善呢?如果心好,又為何常「情緒不穩」呢?如果心好,又為何常佔人便宜呢?如果心好,又為何常黑白講,顛倒是非呢?如果心好,又為何不為妳你過去世及現世、所對不起的及傷害過的人與事,道歉、懺悔及謀求福利呢?「她他牠們一直都在等妳你」,妳你可知道嗎?

On a recent Feng Shui audit assignment, I visited the residence of a young man stricken with a serious illness. While I stood outside his main door, taking readings (sitting and facing directions) with my Luo Pan (chinese compass), he swiftly greeted me and opened the door to welcome my students and I. Of course, I politely raised my head to reciprocate. But what I saw was not just a young man, I saw the marks of karma on him.
My beloved readers, do you remember 2 of my previous articles titled "Your Shadow of Debt" and "His and Her Silhouettes"? Some people have lesser karmic debtors, thus their family, health, career, relationships, business and other aspects of their life have little obstacles now or that the occurrence of these obstacles has been delayed. On the other hand, those people with many karmic debtors will experience countless obstacles in all aspects of their life from a young age. As the saying goes, "The good and the bad will reap their just rewards at the end. It is only a matter of which comes first. "
After I have completed the Feng Shui audit for this young man, my students and I immediately made our way to town to fulfil a dinner appointment with another student couple. After the meal, I personally picked a few clothing items that would give them "protection" from life's "harsh weathers". The Buddha expounded the fleeting impermanence of life, that changes are always speedy. I painstakingly selected the clothing items for them in hope that they will still be safe when I am not by their sides.
We should not be complacent in times of good fortune, good health and happiness. Instead, we should realise that we are now in a prime position to quickly repent for our past misdeeds, give generously to others, and accumulate more merits to buffer us when the time of crisis arrives. Do not be deluded that the good times will last forever. Nor should you think or say that as long as you have a good heart, so will your life. If you have a good heart, why do you refuse to perform good deeds? If you have a good heart, why are you often emotionally unstable? If you have a good heart, why do you frequently take advantage of others? If you have a good heart, why do you twist and contort the facts? If you have a good heart, why will you not repent your misdeeds to those people whom you hurt from your present and past lifetimes, and seek blessings for them?.
Are you totally clueless that "they" have been waiting for you all these while?
