NICE REVIEW of my RA mix 😘
“The past is a foreign country,” a voice informs us at the start of Tzusing’s thunderous mix for RA. “They do things differently there.” Rarely has this famous line, from L. P. Hartley’s novel The Go-Between, felt more apt. Tzusing plays on our end-times emotions with murdered-out 808 beats, horror-stomp techno, signal-jamming synthwave, and Depeche Mode (!) across a 90-minute marathon–it’s more like a movie than a mix. For our money he’s simply one of the best DJs in the world right now, capable of building narrative and suspense like some kind of techno John Carpenter. Shudder."
I said NO to doing this movie but? Read my insecurity below.

I remember clearly how reluctant I was to say yes to doing this because I was insecure with my looks. When they first approached me, I quickly turned down the offer. I do not have the most perfect skin and my huge pores often affect my self-confidence. I always wanted my talent to be the focus and not my appearance. But I'm hardly in control of that. After being convinced by my best friend for hours and days, I decided to do it. (that's why it's important to have a good circle of connections). I auditioned for the role and I got it. Mind you, I was still anxious about being in front of huge ass cameras that literally Super HD everything about you. I was so self-conscious. 🥺

But, whenever the cameras started rolling and I got into character, I forget everything else and enjoy every moment of being in character. How crazy! Let's just say, I love playing roles and I knew for myself, I was skilful in what I was doing but insecurites very quickly distract me from seeing the bigger picture. A couple of days and scenes later, almost in completion of filming for #TakutKeTak, we casually sat around the director asking him why he'd picked us out of the hundreds who auditioned. He spoke of each of us and why he picked us. And this line of his when speaking about me, changed my life.

"The moment I saw you, I knew I wanted you. When they (the team) showed me your videos, I knew instantly that you're not meant just for small screens. You're meant for the biggest of screens. I recognized your potential but you can't see that yet. And even after you turned down my offer the first time, I had a feeling you would return.".

I returned. We filmed an entire Horror Comedy movie together with a bunch of REALLY amazing casts and I couldn't feel more proud of myself for DOING it. I beat my insecurities.
