中世紀基督教派神學認為，熾天使被看作是神殿管理者，不停的唱著聖歌，由於完全理解了上帝的慈愛，而以這愛和理解欣喜地燃燒自己，熾天使沒有固定的形體、面龐為紅色、軀體是火焰、長有六隻羽翼，其中兩隻覆蓋臉、兩隻覆蓋腳、另外兩隻用于飛翔，熾天使手持火焰聖扇，不休止地讚美上帝、在上帝的寶座周圍飛翔。
