God Hears your Prayers based on Jesus’ Finished Work
“He made the altar of incense of acacia wood. It was square: its length was a cubit, and its width a cubit. Its height was two cubits. Its horns were of one piece with it. He overlaid it with pure gold, its top, its sides around it, and its horns. He made a gold molding around it.” (Exodus 37:25-26 WEB)
In the Tabernacle of Moses and Solomon’s temple, the altar of burnt offering has four horns on its corners. The altar of incense in the Holy Place also has four horns. This is not a coincidence—they are related.
The altar of burnt offering is a picture of the cross where Jesus was crucified. Jesus hung on the cross and took all of God’s fiery punishment for sins upon His own body.
The altar of incense is shaped in the same way as the altar of burnt offering, and the priest burns fragrant incense on the altar of incense.
The smoke of incense wafts into the Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant is.
This fragrant incense is a picture of our prayers that ascend to God the Father in Heaven.
“The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand.” (Revelation 8:4 WEB)
The similarity in shape between the two altars teaches us something: our prayers only ascend to God the Father as sweet incense on the basis of Jesus’ finished work at the cross.
When you ask God for anything, let your prayers ascend from a place in your heart where you’re not boasting in your works, but solely depending on Jesus’ finished work at the cross for the “Yes” and “Amen”.
It’s not about how many chapters of the Bible you read a day, how often you fast, or how many times you take holy communion.
If you do all those as works to earn your blessings, instead of receiving faith in Jesus, then they are all dead works.
Remember that the Pharisees and scribes knew the Scriptures well and they thought their knowledge granted them eternal life, but Jesus called them blind because the Scriptures spoke of Jesus, and they were not willing to place their faith in Him to be saved.
““You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me. Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.” (John 5:39-40 WEB)
When you miss the main point which is Jesus, you get nothing at all. When you place your faith in Jesus, you freely receive it all!
Abba Father loves it when you pray, especially when you entreat Him based on Jesus’ finished work at the cross. It is sweet-smelling incense to Him, and He is most happy to give good things to you when your faith is in Jesus.
The key is to keep beholding Jesus and growing in your revelation of His love, grace and goodness towards you. He is the key to experiencing all of God’s blessings, miracles and power.
